Sydney - It was a case of two contrasting nights for Australia's two
pop princesses at Tuesday nights ARIA Awards.

Kylie Minogue enhanced her ever growing reputation by taking home four
of the coveted awards, including Single Of The Year for "Can't Get You
out of My Head" and Best Pop Release for her Fever album. Both
releases also took home the awards for Highest Selling Single and
Album.

Minogue's crowning glory was being presented with a special award for
lifetime achievement, recognising what has been the most successful
year of her 15-year music career.

The news however wasn't as good for a wannabee Kylie clone in 19 year
old Holly Valance.

Valance was nominated for six awards but went home empty handed and
was the subject of rumours at the ARIA after parties.

Valance who was given the honour of opening the show, was jeered by
sections of the 5,000 strong crowd for miming after it was previously
billed that the ARIA's would be her 'first live television
performance'. Valance was the only act on the night to mime their
performance.

An ARIA official later told OzeMusicNews that they were furious with
Valance's management who mislead the ARIA production crew.

"If we knew that Holly was going to mime, there is no way in hell we
would of let her perform. Miming cheapens the production and in my
opinion shows a lack musical talent".

Another industry insider also slammed Valance and her ARIA
performance.

"It was truly laughable, no wonder people were jeering her, it was a
case of Betty Boo all over again, her music career is pretty much
finished in this country now in terms of being a credible performer"

Holly Valance a credible performer? Her only credibility was only ever going to be that she sold records, which is all the credibility one needs these days.

Love the article Ewok At least if you are going to mime (and in no way do I condone it), be convincing.

But I guess those running the Aria's put a little too high expectations on the poor lass, her voice is so obviously electronically enhanced in her recordings, which I would imagine is very hard to replicate on stage.

By the sounds of it, she knows twice as much as you.

If she was "expected to perform there" and confirmed as appearing weeks ago like you imply, somehow I think she would have been advertised (heavily) as being there. Considering her popularity, she would have been a huge drawcard to the event, as well as the Channel 10 telecast.

It's crap anyway if what was said about her performance in the ARIA's are right. It could be because of her relative inexperience, but i am judgin her purely on her looks, kinda like with Britney Spears.
