The Caulfield Racecourse development is edging closer and closer to being our new home base.

A snippet from the article:

Melbourne has pressed ahead with plans to build a new training and administrative base at Caulfield Racecourse in a bid to finally bring the club under one roof.

The Demons have hit major hurdles across multiple sites over the past five years but have made progress in their attempts to be part of a massive redevelopment at Caulfield.

But the project could still hinge on the community facilities and access for locals as Melbourne attempts to secure significant State Government funding for the project.

(Apologies if there was already a thread - had a quick search and didn't see one)

My old high school over the back fence . PE was a lap around the track . I guess there is still an oval out the back as well .

Imagine if we had a home base in Melbourne.

Wait, that’s for clubs not named Melbourne.
If only we could train on the MCG. Anyway, Caufield is a much better spot than Casey.

Plenty of Dees supporters down that way too.

I for one do not like this idea of Caulfield.

And so we relinquish the idea of Gosch's, after we've had it resurfaced; Only to let it land into the Pies hands, as they're 2nd oval... that is a takeover of 'Melbourne, the city'; By the Collingwood football club.

Gee we know how to capitulate when the chips get tough.!

Seriously, Melbourne Board members just get sucked in to anything sold to them, as a win.
Too quick to jump at shadows when they think they cannot hold out any longer.

The reason why Geelong has such an advantage is they train on their home ground that they play on. Melbourne should be able to train on the MCG. I know all the reasons why we don't, but the original home team of the MCG should never have given up that position. That should be our base.

What are we doing currently? Training at Casey, Goschs with our headquarters at AAMI, our store at the G and our home ground at the G and playing a home game in Alice. It's a fn mess.

And you think that the Pies will settle for just one oval at the glasshouse, going into the future.? Or do you think a rich club like that will move to a bigger property circumstance soon enough.?

We need a home where supporters can meet when going in to the games... and leaving after wins such as last night.

Who is going to meetup at Caulfield pre game, and after games. To build a supporter based footy club.
........................

Your right currently its a mess, but its better than being at the old junction oval owned by others.

I believe when the Punt Rd improvements happen, and the Metrail cover has begun, we will be in the box seat where we are, to build on it.

Who gives a s**t about Collingwood. This is about us being nomads for half a century and finally having a permanent home that suits our club.

Got nothing to do with having a social club. Those days are long gone. Richmond supporters don't go to Punt road after a win they go to the Corner hotel.

Trying to redevelop parkland in the city area is a political minefield we simply can't navigate. Moving to a suburban base that's a half hour drive from the city and in the heart of where our supporterbase lives and where players would actually like to live is a good idea. If we can actually pull it off it will be a fantastic achievement for the club.

This narrative is so completely out of touch. Which AFL clubs currently have their supporters meet somewhere before heading to the stadium every week?

Aside from that, the whole idea of a social club is not even remotely viable. The hospitality industry is increasingly becoming run by large companies rather than single operators, an AFL club would not be able to compete in that space at all. On top of that, you're expecting a business to operate by appealing to a very small market (supporters of 1 football team) and in a very small time frame (a few hours perhaps once a week for half the year). Not realistic at all.

A home base has nothing to do with supporters. That's the reality. It's to have a cohesive centre for operations and a professional quality training oval and facilities. That's it. I would be massively disappointed in the club if they spent time and money on catering for the 3 or 4 nuffs that go to training regularly and I'd be furious if they thought they could compete in the current hospitality space. Have you kept track of all the struggles in the hospo industry, outside of the growth of the very few major companies in Australia?

To be announced alongside Simon Goodwin's contract extension?

Source off demonland who's got good contacts within the coterie and board members has said that will be announced anytime soon.

Potential proposal is

2 footy ovals being built alongside a double story building to cater for our football admin and football department.

Supposedly 21 year lease?

Is caufield race course crown land? 21 year lease seems a short amount of time for what would be a very expensive endeavour.

Yes its Crown land . Seems all the horse training will be moved out of Caulfield , The track will remain and it also seems the Melb Racing club is stumping up Millions towards the re-development . From some plans ( Google ) it appears there will be more than just 2 ovals inside . Am also not sure how popular this will be with the locals .

If we can't convince the denizens of our heartland to get on board. We should just give up on ever getting a home base this side of the East Link
