Stosur needs to find some consistency.. seems like one of those people which takes a while to get going. Also her forehand seems to have gotten a lot more heavy (more topspin) but she isn't going to hit as many winners. Might be a good move to get her more consistent, however she needs to flatten it out more. She still looks rusty though.

Hewitt was on fire in the first set, was absolutely blitzing it. Played a good match although Isner didn't really bring his A game. Lleyton looks solid however its really the same old for him. If he gets a decent draw he'll get to 3rd/4th round and then go out to a big seed at the Aussie Open. His backhand seems to be faltering at times though, its his most solid shot but he seems to be a tad inconsistent with it at the moment. Again, probably still rusty.

Did anyone else notice the lack of communication between Stosur and Hewitt? They seem... distant. They're not gelling very well...

Lisicki/Kohl @ $1.95 to beat Robson/Murray seems like fantastic value.

Dementieva/Andreev @ $1.38 is good value also, looks extremely hard to beat.

*Both doubles

Well you'd think with Stosur's doubles record that they'd do well, but this is probably the reason why. I did here one of them during the week though (can't remember who) say they knew each other quite well. Maybe they just can't be arsed?

There's also a possibilty that Lleyton feels a little awkward with Bec & co watching on.

Looking at every little move he makes, he may be a little too cautious in the mixed.

Lleyton would be more worried about Sam making a move on Bec than on him. She likes the girls.

Shit, didn't know that. That's probably what he's worrying about then. :D

Tough ask for the Aussies today, they only have to drop one set to the in form Spaniards and they are effectively out and Spain are in the final.

The spanish girl (Martinez Sanchez) has been in top form, and Tommy looked very good in his first 2 matches, although he got a bit lucky against Romania.

Even if somehow Stosur and Hewitt win their matches in straight sets, they will have no chance of doing the same in the doubles, as Robredo is ranked inside the world's top 20 and he seemed to gel will with his partner in the first tie, something that Hewitt/Stosur seem to be struggling with.

My tips are;

Stosur in 3 sets

Hewitt in straight sets (Robredo will know he doesn't have to win)

Spain to win doubles in 3 sets. (basically a dead rubber)

Hewwy broken in the first game of the match. Looks to be playing okay though, nice touch early on. Robredo played a ripper first game.

Much better for the tournament if Aussies can make it deep. Better atmosphere, increased ratings. Sure, channel 7 will flog it to death, but I hope we get as many Aussies possible into the 2nd week of the tournament as possible.

Robredo too good. Both play similar styles but Robredo was the one taking control of the points, he was too solid for Lleyton. Lleyton's backhand is look very shaky... usually its a solid shot but it seems a liability at the moment.

Robredo has hit his peak right about now. Be interesting to see if he can keep this type of form up all the way through the Oz Open. I doubt it, but it wouldn't be a massive surprise. Has been around for a while now. In saying that, even in top form he wouldn't get past Nadal/Federer/Djokovic/Davydenko/Murray on one of their bad days.

Just watched the last few games of the womens final, well done to Laura Robson. Great effort for a 15 yo to beat someone ranked inside the top 30 or so.

The interview was great too, refreshingly honest and quite funny as well "I just dominated that first set"

^Wrong, so wrong. Eh, im sure the Aus media try and claim her when she starts winning, and give the "honour" of the Aussie prefix.

"I think everyone in London is sleeping".
Charmer.

I hope for her sake, she doesn't become another victim of the british media.

Robson has a massive future. Massive. Once her body matures even more she will be a beast. She's already a beast actually.

High quality match this one between Robredo and Murray. Robredo stepped it up late in the 2nd and Murray finally cracked. Robredo looks so much better when he's attacking and on the baseline. WHen he's in defensive mode he just can't penetrate- when he's looking to control the point he is top 10. Hopefully he continues to be agressive.
