Looks like the boss of the swat team rolled up, he was having a joke with a swat guy, they were smiling, more plain clothes cops on the street now, one was looking up to a roof, sniper maybe?
Why do people keep saying SWAT and SAS when we have neither of them in Australia?

Can only dream of being this good
Pleasantly surprised to date - the forces appear to have shit locked up tight, and as under control as possible.
Well we have an amateur holed up in a coffee shop so you'd hope so

If you want twelve dead hostages then sure
He might kill them regardless.

Why do people think that someone like this will "do the right thing" when, if they did the right thing before, they wouldn't be in this situation?

Someone who carries a gun and holds people hostage is not likely to be the most honest and trustworthy person. So why do we think he can be appeased?

I say,if it is one perpetrator, draw him to the window, and get a police sniper to take him out. Then rescue the hostages.

Who cares if civil libertarians cry about you taking out the perp? People should be thanking the police for rescuing the hostages, not condemning them if they shoot the crim.

I think that the man was going to go somewhere else, someone spotted him and told the police, so he ducked into the cafe, and held the people hostage, because things didn't go to plan and he has got desperate.

Also, not making demands might mean that the guy is some amateur and is more desperate than a major threat. His actions don't scream "criminal genius". Sounds like some campaigner who has got in over his head and likes showing how he can cause chaos.
Suggestions are he's made demands, but the police are refusing to publicise them.

I'd suggest that if they were absolutely positive it was just him and that he didn't have any accomplices, they would have shot him already by now.
I doubt it's that easy to get a shot, getting a good angle is hard enough with the positioning of surrounding buildings, he has been using hostages as body shields at times, and he isn't going to be going and standing right at the window either

The thing is, if it takes already 10 hours and nothing has happened to take this Terrorist down :

What happens when there are 6 simultaneous explosions, plane hijackings and Anthrax being mailed all over Australia?!

They should've already shot the guy and released all the Hostages, 2 hours ago!

Like they do in Israel every few months...

Is this the best Counter-terrorism police is Australia can do?!
I think most people would like this outcome but what if that backpack he has strapped to his back is full of explosives? Or if the rumor floating around that his brothers have bombs spread around Sydney are true

Have to think of the bigger picture
