Happy to look like an idiot, but I've always wondered in this situation why there isn't some sort of gas/anaesthesia product than can be pumped into a room/building that just puts everyone's lights out.

They all wake up half an hour later with bad guy in handcuffs.

Just seems like something science could do.
Ruskies have that kind of stuff, not always successful

Legit question, why do people think that we can take the gunman out with a sniper at the click of a finger?

If we could, it would have been done already.
I don't think so. The peaceful resolution is still the best option. That allows us to further investigate and interrogate the gunmen. He might have vital information regarding potential future threats.

Extraordinarily difficult to get the gas/oxygen ratio right. Not enough and he's onto you and he's pissed off. Too much and you risk killing everyone.

If the government were told that the only casualty were to be the gunman, I reckon they wouldn't hesitate to hit the trigger. Interrogation at the risk of the hostages safety would be silly right?

They seem to be a little too worried about what the Muslim extremists would think of us if we did that. God only knows why we should care what they think.
It's been happening in Australia for a long time terrified of the backlash when it comes to anything that could upset the Muslim public

It sounds good, but it's not really that simple or safe to put everyone out by pumping a room full of gas. Didn't work out too well in Moscow.

Very complicated. Need to get the exact right ratio of gas:eek:xygen which obviously varies on room sizes and people. Too much can kill. To little the guy realises what's going o n and he kills.

Also what about the hostages, they will get tired as well, do they have the balls to take a nap? How will they react as the days go by.

There is a chance one could get frustrated and have a go at him...

It's the last resort if they shot him 4 hours ago they would cop massive backlash

I have no doubt they could take him out with one shot
