So the AFL and Essendon have made a compromise - the 26 players on Essendon's list that were there in 2012 will be able to sit out the NAB challenge to protect the identities of the 18 provisionally suspended Essendon players. That's great for those 18, well 16 as we know Watson and Fletcher are definitely 2 of those 18. Shame about the identities of Ryder, Monfries and Crameri though.

Yes, circumstances (ie change of club) meant that they have had to be identified, but Gillon has bent over to assist those still at Essendon. If the AFL reckon they've got sufficient evidence to issue show cause notices and provisional suspensions on certain individuals then they shouldn't be putting suspicion on those who aren't in the 34.

6 of the 8 have been done for drugs at some point in their career ie had positives. This great doco came out a month before the London Olympics. Da Silva from Brazil time's of 10.21 suggest he wasnt on drugs but plenty of athletes who have run 10.0-10.7 have admitted taking drugs. Calvin Smith though regularly broke 10 seconds, which is suspicious. Did you believe Armstrong and team mates were innocent before October 2012?

Let me clarify the fact that I hold no brief for drug cheats.

It only needs one clean competitor in the Seoul final to refute the claim that Johnson won 'fair and square' and that was what I questioned. As for Lance Armstrong I chose to believe that he was not on drugs until he was proven guilty. He was proven to be guilty so I accept he was a drug cheat just as I will accept that Ryder and Monfries are drug cheats IF they are proven guilty. But how about you, on the basis of what is known of the ASADA case do you think Angus and Paddy are guilty?

1000% correct. This whole deal is a complete farce. The farcical nature of this process is highlighted in the fact that Port officials are not supposed to know who is under investigation yet Ryder and Monfries are allowed to sit out the NAB Cup. Port have announced that neither Angus or Paddy will play and we have to assume this is because both are under investigation.

If the Essendon players are found guilty by the AFL Tribunal and a suspension is imposed we will have this situation all over again because Essendon will be forced to look at a backup plan and the AFL will have to either accommodate them or suspend them from the competition while the players serve the penalty. A bye for part of the season will be an absolute disaster.

The temporary list concessions, overseen by league general counsel Andrew Dillon, allow the club to recruit up to two non-AFL-listed players from any state league club around the country as long as they have been on an AFL list in the past two seasons.

The Bombers are also free to use players from their stand-alone VFL affiliate side, but they do not need to have been on an AFL list before.

The measures will also apply if any of Essendon's players receive suspensions from the tribunal that affect the home and away season.

Surely Ryder isn't going to play in the indigenous all stars game against West Coast with all this Asada stuff hanging over his head?
Sounds unlikely:

THEY’RE drastically lacking height, but the Indigenous All Stars will be aiming to make West Coast eat their dust at ground level when the two teams lock horns in Perth on Friday night.
Fremantle ruckman Jonathon Griffin and 187cm defender Curtly Hampton are among the few players in the Indigenous side boasting decent height.

Adam Goodes would have also been handy, but the 191cm veteran is unlikely to play in the fixture despite joining the squad’s training camp this week.

In contrast, West Coast boast a glut of big-man options, with Nic Naitanui, Scott Lycett, Josh Kennedy, Mitch Brown, Jeremy McGovern, and Will Schofield just some of the tall options at their disposal.

But what the Indigenous All Stars lack in height, they make up for in speed and skill.

Cyril Rioli, Stephen and Bradley Hill, Chris Yarran, Brandon Matera, Shaun Burgoyne, Jake Neade, Lewis Jetta, and Travis Varcoe are among the 59 Indigenous stars who have assembled in Perth this week in the lead-up to Friday’s game.

Good news.As great as it would be for him, but bigger things at play unfortunately for him.

Paddy has to be selected of course because as ridiculous as it seems no one officially no one knows players are involved. He is just unavailable on game day due to general soreness or the flu. Just the way it works.

Hahahaha!

Imagine if the players actually had a choice in the matter and weren't having a sack thrown over them and being tackled into a van by Essendon management in the middle of WWT preseason training. It would be totally unfair if these players theoretically had higher goals than SANFL football.

THANKFULLY that isn't the case.

I do have an issue that it should have been done 3 months ago at whoevers expense. The top up players are being thrown to the wolves without a proper preseason. You look at how Port are training and these guys are doing circle work in the parklands easy to imagine a greater risk of injury though just trying to keep up. If it goes a few weeks into the real season I'm betting they are looking for more players.

The flip side of that is what if they did it 3 months ago and the fiasco had been resolved by the time of the NAB cup? Then you would have had a bunch of lower grade players who hadn't trained with their teammates and weren't getting the benefit of having their eyes in front of AFL recruiters in the hope of getting another chance at top level.

Wasnt sure where this fits ...

http://titusoreily.com/everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-sanfl/

This week, Essendon approached several SANFL players to play in the NAB Challenge.

This is because many Essendon players will have to sit out due to a giant international conspiracy.

The SANFL were not happy and Essendon have since apologised.

Anyway, you’re probably wondering what is a SANFL? Do I have it and is there a cure? Can you get it from eating frozen berries?

These are good questions, well put.

Rest assured, you probably don’t have SANFL.
