Sounds like these guys are some of the first to come under WADA's new code of 4 years for systematic doping. 2 years only if they can prove it was unintentional consumption.

From Pert's very limited presser.
Pert advised on Friday by ASADA - no breach until B sample is positive
The 2 players have not conveyed anything to club about positive result ( ie Pert hasnt discussed it with them)
Forensic investigation to Collingwood's dietary and nutrition program since Friday to make sure
Hoping to meet players and representative this week to work out if appropriate to continue to train

From one of the questions
Got a call on Friday morning from someone from ASADA explaining what the breach was and then the players were named

You wonder why the AFL, ASADA, the clubs and the players say anything before the B sample results are in? Why not afford the players the benefit of the doubt until the results are conclusive? We have all this speculation in the media and if the B sample turns out to be negative there is no case to answer and consequently no show cause.

I have admit to being confused at the whole process as in respect to Gus Monfries and Paddy Ryder we were told in the media that the club was not supposed to know who was under investigation by ASADA. If the B samples are positive I assume there will be an ASADA investigation into this? Yet according to Garry Pert ASADA have told Collingwood who these players are so in the event of an investigation Collingwood will know who the players under investigation are.

If the B sample is positive some of those Collingwood supporters who have been giving Essendon heaps may have to take a step back. At this stage this is an individual thing and not club orchestrated as was the case at Essendon but if these boys test positive the results could be serious for Collingwood.

In a statement, ASADA said "Clenbuterol is classed as an S1 anabolic agent on WADA's prohibited list and is prohibited in and out of competition.

"Unsupervised use of clenbuterol can worsen pre-existing heart conditions or hypertension, and there is a risk of overdose and stroke when used at high doses. It is a potentially dangerous drug that, as well as being banned under the prohibited list, is not approved for human use in Australia."

ASADA said "out-of-competition samples were collected by ASADA from two players on 10 February 2015. 'A' samples from both players returned a positive result for the prohibited substance clenbuterol."

The Magpies had just returned from their pre-season camp in New Zealand when the players were tested.

"On 6 March 2015, after receiving advice from a WADA-accredited laboratory in relation to both players' samples, ASADA commenced an investigation. ASADA is unable to elaborate on the investigation process as it remains ongoing," the agency said.

"At the appropriate time in ASADA's investigation and after concluding its legislative processes, ASADA notified the two players on 27 March 2015 of the 'A' sample test results."

Were all Collingwood players tested on their return to Oz or was this a random sample ? If the entire team was not tested we might assume that other Collingwood players have slipped through the net.

Reading the article in your link REH this stuff is not just a steroid it is potentially lethal. If the B sample is positive these guys are in deep shite.

Correct that is why it was made a Schedule 1 drug -like heroin and cocaine in the Qld Drugs Misuse Act. I wouldnt be surprised if all states similar act was amended at the same time.

It probably answers your question why the players have agreed to go public before the B sample has been tested. Its too hard to sweep this one under the carpet like Ryan Crowley's over the counter pain relief product.

You have to wonder about the intelligence of some of these players after the mud our great game has been dragged through for 2 odd years,1st Saad then Crowley then these 2.Reading the ASADA guy Richard Ings on twitter if these 2 have their B sample test positive their looking at a long suspension. Not a good time for our game atm.
It's not a drug test it's an intelligence test.

Only idiots get caught. Or, in the 15 minute window your cortisone cream is detectable, extremely unlucky to get caught.
You just don't open the door.

This will be pushed under the tainted meat bus. Guaranteed. It's worked for swimmers for years

No mate, that's irrelevant.

Remember, probably 75% of rugby players are on the sauce, and maybe same again for all players.

yes, we need to sweep it under the rug, or do better in the IQ tests.

they did not just start doping today. it is not a few bad apples. dont project the position these players are of poor character. they aint.

Welcome the the alpha male.

And if you don't think...

  • Bonymaen’s Nick Clancy became the 10th rugby union player in the UK this year to be suspended for doping offence
  • Former coach says he walked away from the professional game in disgust at the scale of drug-taking
  • Study of South African schoolboy players returned 12 positive tests for anabolic steroids out of just 52 undertaken
