News Houli wants a chance

Houli has officially walked from the Dons and will not return under any circumstances: TWR and Houli's manager about 15 minutes ago.

Says he will go to the draft if necessary.

Tiges surely hold all the cards now. I am very pleased.:D

It was confirmed by AFL website that Houli has walked out on Essendon and his management said that he will not play for the bummers again.

Wow, in the past we had to pay an arm and a leg to get players to Richmond. Now, it seems decent players are prepared to enter the PSD, just so they can come and play for this great club. Apart from the cash we are paying them, what a turn-around from the Terry Wallace era.

Doesn't it feel great to have the upper hand? Geez, I cannot believe that Tossendon are DEMANDING trade picks for him. Hoping they gain sweet FA from all of this!

Loving this. Dons fans jammed talkback all year bleating about why Houli wasn't given a go. He was clearly BOG against the Saints, then dropped a week or so later.

Hardwick wants someone outside with superior kicking skills. He has identified Houli, so going with that

Loved the last line of the article. Would be an excellent result to get him though the PDS. Houli the tiger..hahaha essendon will be spewing. Thanks Matty knights and hirdy.

This is what I wrote on the Essendon forum, thought I'd write it here too.

I don't get it with you lot.

At first he has potential and is 'worth' a pick in the 20s.

Now he walks out and is 'lazy', 'shit', 'spud', 'dud'

and now maybe your team should just take a pick in the 40s.

Just as a Bombers supporter said on our board, 'this is negotiating, we are getting the best from what we've got'.

All I can say, is this IS negotiating and we won't be even offering those picks now, and Pick 50 is on offer, draft a kid and roll the dice, might work out for ya.

Have to agree here, Bachar seems to have plenty of upside and fits a specific need, can't really believe people are not happy to have him. Not saying he is a world beater but we will give up very little to get him, he wants to play for us, fits the right age backet and skillset we require, big WIN all round IMO and well done to the footy department who come out looking very proffesional and thorough. Just continues the trend started last year that seems to be slowly turning around the faith the supporters have in the adminstration.

Yeah...

Firstly I gotta say I have not seen much of Houli as a player... that is why I have only been lukewarm ever since his name first came up.

However, the past few days have encouraged me.
You can not overstate the motivation of professional sportspeople and he clearly WANTS to get to Richmond... despite the overtures of Essendon and Hird's BLT sandwich meeting yesterday.

This tells me he will be a very highly motivated unit when he runs out in the yellow-and-black and that I like a lot.

One other possibly more 'fringe' positive...
Generally speaking, young men of the muslim faith can be a liitle over confident and arrogant in their own abilities, however they can also be quietly spoken, fine, outstanding individuals who have enormous plus sides.
I'm thinking of Hazem El Masri in the NRL and the very positive successful career he forged... quietly going around his business... true to his faith but also an elite performer.

If Bachar is cut from the same sort of cloth and brings similar principles with him then all the more reason to get him in. :thumbsu:

And as I said over there, we're not going to delist a kid just to pick up another kid with a later pick and all the older blokes are either on contract or keepers. Would not make any sense at all to use a late pick just because we got it in trade.

And the Tigers basically know this, hence why they're holding firm.

Your blithe and repeated ignorance (and clogging up richmond board threads with "What essendon should do is...") are just getting annoying and I'm sure others are pretty peeved too.

If Bachar can kick as well as el Masri, we have a winner.

Your blithe and repeated ignorance ('you'll upgrade our 46 to 28') is far more annoying and thread-clogging.

Your blithe and repeated ignorance ('you'll upgrade our 46 to 28') is far more annoying and thread-clogging.

What has been discussed on the Essendon board is the fact Essendon will more likely than not be taking the minimum 3 picks in this seasons draft, with Ben Howlett to be upgraded to the senior list.

Therefore, Richmond offering us 46 IS nothing, when we already have 47 which may even be used as the rookie upgrade.

So accepting a 3rd or 4th rounder which will be an automatic pass in the draft, due to the number of spots available on our list, is the exact same thing as making Houli enter the PSD from our perspective. We don't receive compensation either way, regardless of whether it is "fair" or not.

CNB1990 has clagged up 2 or 3 pages with "Well if Essendon don't accept pick 46 he goes for nothing" over on the Essendon board, and I believe it was the Essendon Board that Slattery20 meant to refer to.

I posted that once, which is, still, the only way the trade would be value for us, some disagreed, then I followed up.... sorry if offended.
Was on-topic at least which is more than some have managed.

It's not clogging, its drilling it into your knuckleheads that we arent parting ways with our 2nd rounder, so stop coming up with scenario's that will involve Richmond giving more than they should.

Your entire board is full of people who want all the cakes in the bakery, and want to eat them too.

All we will give you is a crumb, slowly slowly your supporters are starting to get it though, thats why I don't need to post there anymore :)

If he meant Essendon and wrote Richmond, and posted it, and hasn't corrected himself... wow. Fair enough, I haven't bothered going to your board but I'm pretty sick of the bullshit coming from the likes of Slattery over here. The main issue is the insistence on our second rounder. That's not going anywhere. Not a chance, and I'm sick of a supporter of a club with no hand telling us it is.

As for taking the minimum picks, I hope you do. Hird will be making the same mistake as Knights of seriously overrating your list.

No personal offence intended but us Tigers are really going to enjoy watching your club crash and burn. You think it's bad at the moment. The pain is yet to begin.:p

I'm not sure how anyone on here can speak for the club. By saying 'We won't part with such and such' is ludicrous because you simply do not know.
Speculation and debate is fine. But stating your own opinion like they are the club's is complete rubbish. For all you know, the club may be deciding to do exactly what you say they won't. Don't post at all if that's what you are going to do. It adds nothing.

But you can't seem to understand the situation yourself, so i'll try one last time: Essendon have de listed Laycock, are expected to delist Atkinson and will lose Houli. This gives us 3 picks in the draft.

8, 30 and 47.

The only other uncontracted players are Lonergan, Tyson Slattery and Michael Still. Given Slattery and Still are both under 20, it seems unlikely they will be chopped for a 3rd round pick or later. Lonergan played most games last season so he seems an outside chance also.

Ben Howlett will be upgraded to the senior list with our final pick in the draft, so it doesn't matter if we do this at 46, 47 or 147. Even delisting one of the aforementioned, Essendon would probably be just as happy taking pick 47 instead of 46 and upgrading Howlett with our fourth rounder.

It's not about fair, its about the fact you keep saying "you're better off taking this" when in fact we are in the exact same situation either way. Picks you don't take are nothing. Houli goes for a pick < 40s or Houli goes for nothing.

I guarantee you we are offering nothing more than a third round pick. The ball is in their court. I wouldn't expect this to be resolved until Sunday. Just because it's Essendon.

All I'm doing is going by what Craig Camereon has stated, I'm not speaking on behalf of the club.

On Tim Watson's SEN radio show from 6-9 I think, he said we are not interested in tradng our 2nd rounder or Bock Compo pick, but we would be happy to part with the 3rd rounder Adelaide gave us for Tambling.

All I go by is their word, I can assure you its not 'my opinion' even though I am the one who said it. I think the others who speak as if they are representing the club just go by what our list managers have said. :)

All this is assuming Essendon don't trade one of their 1st three picks somewhere else along the line in the next few days. It also assumes that they have no use of a later pick for forwarding on in another deal.

That like most else on here is opinion based on assumptions. :thumbsu:

Fair enough Tug. I'm just going on Craig Cameron saying we won't trade our early picks. Plural. I'd count our second rounder as early.

Fair enough. The way some posts are worded it's like 'You won't get pick 20'. Well we simply don't know that. We hope, but we don't know.
Anyway, carry on.

Just a sidenote to everyone, keep it civil. The debate on here is fine as it as. In fact it's good.
But it only takes one snide pissant comment to make it all escalate into a shit fight.
And tugga doesn't need that stress on a Friday arvo.
