Houlihan WHY!!!!!

And we all know that this thread carries a lot of weight in the coaches box.

It's a shame it didn't mate. Houlihan is clearly a much better footballer, and therefore more dangerous when he is played off a HFF. I really hope that Ratts recognises this, and plays him there, rather than BP, or on a HBF.

He was filling a running half-back role because of his good delivery. Most teams set up from their half-back, and to do that you need someone who is creative and skillful. He fit the bill, and he's not as bad a defender as he's painted by some - there's a reason he finished high in the B&F. Hopefully we have more options this year.

Ideally we'd have two Ryan Houlihans, but then some supporters' heads would explode.

I don't think that he has lost that much speed, he probably just looks a little slower now because there is more of him there and because he hasn't really had the opportunity to go on that many runs due to his run with roles..... How much speed do players lose adding a bit of upper body muscle?

Look at 100m sprinters, they're quite bulky!

I would have thought extra bulk would effect endurance more than burst speed.

If Houlihan was going to have such a greater impact down forward, then why was he moved down back in the first place??? Surely Pagan isn't that stupid.
I think that he's had about the same impact down back as he has had down forward if not more.

Lots of reasons -
1) We had no fast enough players to play back pocket or flank. it was only in 2007 that Anderson starting taking the role, and in 2008 Armfield and Browne can step up. can you remember 2004-2006 when this was Carrazzo's job too? ROBBING PETER!
2) Our skills going forward were poorer than normal, and Houla's kicking was valued
3) Blueworld mentioned that he was moved because he was struggling with being tagged at the time

You gotta remember that a permanent half forward role is a tough job for anyone. You have to be flexible in this game and Houlihan with his new defensive skills can be seen up and down the flanks and wings in 2008, should be good and should really suit him.

Houla will be traded or delisted at the end of this year, finally putting us out of our misery.

I was right about Davies, who you all championed and he was hopeless, and I will be right about Houla who you all seem to love, and will probably finish his career at Richmond or coaching an amateurs side.

You're always right aren't you?:p

My mate who is Pratt's carwasher, reckons the deal has been done and it's this

3, Kennedy and Houlihan

Swanna convinced them that Houla was our 4th B&F, has good skills.

Also he will not fit into our new team with Judd as he can't play midfield and our forward line is full, and he can't play a defender.
