Would anyone be interested in us running our own Lions B&F count this year for the members on this board?

Each week we each vote in a 3,2,1 format, and of course the weekly winner would be posted here. At the end of the season, there would be a winner, maybe even a trophy of sorts for that player, saying that he was the 'bigfooty' B&F winner......similar to the presentation the Lynch Mob does to the players each year.

Anyone up for it?

Ok so we have enough people to make this work. Anyone wanna do the counting?

I would suggest a pretty simple format:

Each week each person votes in a 3,2,1 format, with only ONE player being able to be allocated the number of votes. ie, if you feel that a number players deserve recognition with a 1 point vote, you still can only choose ONE of them to actually get the vote.

The votes are tallied, and the player with the most number of votes each week, will be annuonced. I was thinking that the total Votes per player NOT be published each week, to avoid any situations where (especially near the end) a player may get or lose votes based on where he sits on the 'ladder' rather than how he actually played in the game.

Any comments or suggestions?

We could possibly have a trial run this weekend to see if it all works ok?

Danni, to maintain a degree of fairness and consistency, I suggest all voters must be registered to vote by Round 1 (ie: people must put their name down to say if they'll vote). Unfortunately this will cut off any people who do come in afterwards - but to do it properly (ie: avoid having 20 voters one week, and 10 the next), it might just be something that has to be done.

I would also suggest that an aggregate vote tally of 15 votes which can be distributed to any number of players (as whole votes), also be adopted as the prefered voting method.

Olmy - Shinboners read this topic then very kindly sent me a spread sheet today that he used last year. It is set up in such a way that it accomodates 'new' and 'extra' voters each round and aggregates scores by the number of posters. So hopefully that will be fine.

As for your 15 votes to be divided - well that is certainly another option. However, I just thought that a 3 2 1 system would be easier to handle - that way each person votes for their top 3 on the ground each game, not their top number of players and dividing votes between them, just thought it might get a bit messy. But I am happy to give it a go if others agree too!

Danni, I think the 15 vote system with an unlimited number of players is the way to go. After all, over the last 2 seasons, the Lions have had a number of games where there have been 5 or more top contributors. It might be a bit messier than a straight 3,2,1 - but I also think it is a more accurate way to rate a player's performance (ie: it rewards those players who are consistent, yet might miss out on votes to a more 'dynamic' performance from another player).

Just my suggestion though. I'm sure either way, it'll still be worth doing!

Count me in too....

In case any of this being of use to yers as you work out how you want to do it, The Lynch Mob back in fitzroy days had a few members actually rate every player's performance from 10 (good) to 0 (didn't get on the ground!).

That's just yet another way it can be handled.

ok folks here's the deal - time to make up your minds how we do this.

Olmy's idea has good merit - I am just not prepared to be the one to count and aggregate the votes in a more complicated situation.

So if someone wants to count/agreggate the votes on a 15-votes-available-to-give-in any combination-to-any-player side comp, then I am happy for that to happen.

Otherwise, seeing as no one else has volunteered, I am happy to run a 3, 2, 1 vote style comp and do the tallying myself.

Or if anyone wants to run that themselves - let me know! Please!

Let's hear your thoughts people.

I personally don't mind which way it is run, as long as someone is willing to run it!

So any volunteers - please step up now so we can have a practice run this weekend!

ok - thanks joshem - that would be great.

If you want to do the simple one - I have a spread sheet you can use straight away - but if you want to use the more complicated - we will have to design a new one!

hmmm c'mon ppl - cast your votes - let's get this organised!

I agree that the 3,2,1 system is the easiest, I will fully support that if it's gonna be the least hassle.

But my preference is for the 5,4,3,2,1 system - I think the vote-sharing is made easier using that method, that way no worthy player misses out.

I know how unreliable I am at tallying things, so I can't say I'll do it........ but yeah, that's the one I would prefer.

But really, either way is fine with me.

Hmm. Yeah, the 3,2,1 method is 'easier', but it's not really 'that' hard to give votes out of a total of 15. For instance, you could decide to give them as 5+4+3+2+1, 15 x 1, 4+4+4+2+1, or whatever other way that totals 15 . . .

It's just that it seems a more accurate way to divide votes to worthy players . . . (ie: it rewards those players who are consistent, yet might miss out on votes to a more 'dynamic' performance from another player).

Ahhh Olmy - you want me to divulge all my secrets??? :)

To put it simply - it isn't going to average scores each week by the number of people that voted, It is going to simply tally the votes each week, then using a system allocate points to each player:

So if one week 10 people vote and say all of them give Voss 3 votes = 30 votes, then the next week only 6 people vote, and each gave Black the 3 votes = 18, Black is not going to be disadvantaged.

For arugements sake we could say that who ever tally's the most votes each week gets 10 points, then both Voss and Black would be on 10 points.

That way the players scores are not going to be influenced by however many people vote each week, just by how those votes were allocated.

btw - this actual spreadsheet was used by someone last year to run quite a successful comp for another club - it seems to work pretty well.
