How about Bower...

... on Kosi? What are people's thoughts on this? If Jammo pulls out as is apparently the word, we will be left with T-Bird and Carlos to mind Kosi and Gehrig, assuming Waite gets Riewoldt.

But what about Bower? Give Bower the job on Kosi and allows T-Bird to do more of a sweeper type role...


Another suggestion I heard (don't shoot me for this, I didn't think of it), was Bannister, yes Bannister, on Gehrig, as he can be one to match it with strength. Bit far-fetched?

Bower is definetly not strong enough to go with Kosi. In a one on one marking contest he would get absolutely murdered.
Thornton is a better fit, even though not ideal. and then Setanta on Gehrig. If not then the other way around with the Irishman taking Kosi.

Bower is a naturally running defender and at this stage of his development is WAY too unaccountable to play on Kosi.

Bannister on Gherig isn't a good idea. Banno is capable of doing a good job on taller players. However, the players that he has beaten have generally not played out of the goalsquare, which is where Fraser will play 90% of the game IMO - remember, he's not fully fit yet.

I do, however, think that there is merit in playing Bannister on Riewoldt. He can match him for speed and endurance, and Roo will be playing further up the ground where Banno is far more suited. I know Waite will probably play on him, but I think it would give us that bit more flexibility.

I'd like to see:

Bannister on Riewoldt - as mentioned above
Waite on Koschitzke - interesting match up. Kosi is stronger than Waite but if we get him running then Waite can rebound off him.
Setanta on Gehrig - worries me a bit but we have to remember that Gehrig won't be fully fit. Setanta must be instructed not to run off him and to stick to him as close as possible all the time.
Bower on Schneider - Bower can take the smaller man but needs to stay committed to the man and not let Schneider get away. Schneider only needs 3 kicks to kick 3 goals and turn a match.

Milne is the only one left and we can leave him to Scotland or Thornton, with the other running out of defense as a loose player.

Back on topic, I just think Bower plays a bit taller than his 192cm frame, and if he doesn't take a Roo or Kosi I think he will sit on King or Gardiner when they rest up forward.

Neither of the above. It's a strange one. You're right about the fit into the side. He also kept Rodan relatively quiet when we beat Port Adelaide at AAMI, so it definitely makes you wonder...

I think that is close to the best match up given our limited stocks. While Waite is the best matchup on Riewoldt, it would mean Kozi and Gehrig in the goal square, both with undersized defenders. I also think, given they will rely on contested marks and outmuscling our defenders, we really need a floating defender too...only two suitable that spring to mind are Cloke or Saddington (if he comes in).
Maybe Russel has been brought into to run with Hayes? Would seem to make sense if Bannister plays back.
