How about the crows learn to kick the ball straight?

Hows about throwing Bernie Vince up forward I.e full forward.
Dangerfield along with whatshisface,,,you know the guy that kicked 10 that time, playing @ a deep forward flank and let the rest flood the back half/midfield.
Let the kids grind it out in the midfield and play Thommo as a rebounding back pocket.

This would work I say. Anyone object?

You may have noticed his absence from our forward line this year? His departure was mentioned briefly in the media during the off-season, but you may have missed it...

I did think something was different. Did someone else who can't kick as well take his guernsey?

Bomb it long to Tiprat was our get out of jail free card when we couldn't spot up a better option. No Tiprat = no target in our forward line = no long bombs to the F50.

Or, ANY option, or didn't look for ANY other option...

Sounds great to me :thumbsu: , except if we put both the Sloane Ranger AND Dangermouse up Forward....we've gut absolutely f*ck all chance of winning the ball out of the Middle. We don't need all our best guns in the Middle, but at least two of them.

Thompson as a "rebounding" Back Pocket? I'd put him in the Coach's Box to watch - much more effective.

I think we will line up as follows on Sunday:

HF: Resting Mid / Johnston / Lynch
FF: Petrenko / Smack / Porps

For me Bicks needs to instruct Smack to sit at FF with Petrenko by his feet. This is our 'oh shit' option. If rushed or there are no leads have Smack make a contest and Pets try and lock it in.

Have Johnston sitting as our leading forward about 30metres from goal - His one responsibility is to sit there and be an actual forward we havent had since Walker went down. Bicks needs to tell him. Lead, Mark kick for goal - THATS IT.

Porps and Lynch are our two smartest footballers in the forward line. Both need to play across the 50metre arc. Job is to lead out to create space for Johnston/ be the link for the inside 50.

Resting mid is there to rest, follow the ball and try not to get in the way of the leading forwards. Unless its Danger. Then he can do whatever he wants.

I've read a whole lot of posts about various structures up Forward, where I've not really been convinced that any of them were particularly good (or bad), but I do like this one. And particularly what's bolded. But this tends to fall apart because our Midfielders' boots get filled with lead, and our Forwards have no other option but to run down the field to help out (our Midfield is bl00dy useless once they lose possession of the ball).

The other problem I've been seeing for ages is that none of our Forwards (except Callinan and Porpoise) focus on crumbing, where they position themselves and wait at ground level. It seems that for years all of our Forwards get tangled up in Marking contests, where as soon as the ball spills free....rebound and goal to the opposition.

On a side note, what you've described for McKernan - this is what I had in mind for Truck when the opposition has no big, power Forwards for him to stand on.

Mate, I nearly lost my drink over my screen with this one!! You must be having a laugh - cos I'm still laughing!!

It would take him all quarter to make it from the back pocket.:p
