Looks like things are going pretty much according to plan.

2-1 is where we woud have wanted to be (apart from 3-0 of course !!) with a fairly healthy percentage 110%.

I like the way we have multiple avenues to goal, with 3 players having kicked >=9 goals (Che, Dew and Gavin) or there abouts. I agree with Williams that perhaps the best is yet to come when Tredrea and Cornes get their act together.

The next few games appear on paper to be winnable:

Stk @ FP
WB @ FP
WCE @ Subi

I like what our midfield is doing. Francou is the pick of them at the moment I think...hard at it and getting plenty of the ball. It is this hardness which is enabling Port to be more direct into their foward line, which in turn creates opportunities for the smaller type players (Che, Dew, Wangas) to get into space....it also helps in the accuracy as we are playing a more direct style of footy out of the middle.

In defense I think Waiklin is proving his worth and really gives us extra felxibility as shown with Paxman playing up front earlier on, and with Mead missing and the defense not falling apart.

The switch from Wangas to Primus as captain seems to have been the right thing for both of them.

I can't think of too many negatives...expcept maybe Tredrea and Cornes but their time will come.

Barnaby and Bond to come back. I would not think either would be automatic selections in the first 18 at this stage. Ackland is going alright, and the likes of Flash, Poulton, Wilson, Kingsley are all in the Bond sort of mould down back. Perhaps a role for Bond in the fwd line might work aka at Princess Park in '97 against North.

Anyway....thought I would jot this down.

Any other observations ?

Good summary ptw. I, unlike a lot of experts, think Tredders is doing ok. He hasn't had as much of the ball as we would like, but if he gets his hands to the ball he marks it and he's obviously trying his guts out. He will always require the best tall defender no matter how well he's going, so that frees the other forwards up a bit. He's not far off being a dominant force!!

We have winners on every line at the moment. Every player has played well, except for maybe Montgomery who has been badly out of form...he played well yesterday tho. We have so many possible goalkickers...its a great change from relying on 2 or 3 players each week.
Shane Bond is a natural forward. He played there for the Magpies...he also played up forward for West Coast. It was a punt by Jack Cahill to play him down back in 97, and he shone there so he left him there.

Can he fit in the forward line tho...we already play Wanganeen, Monty, Che, Burgoyne down there. Can we afford to have another small forward up there?? Id have him on the bench, then he can go wherever really if someone is having a bad game. Our backline is awesome at the moment. So much rebound and run. Poulton has matured into a fantastic footy player. Guerra is all class. Wakelin has added strength and confidence to the backline. 1 or 2 years ago we would of been buggered without Mead.
Id like to see Derek or Allan Murray get a go as well. Allan kicked 6 on saturday, and is in pretty good form for South. We can also fit Bishop in somewhere. We have so many options and bloody good depth that we can almost afford a few injuries!!!

Signs are looking good. If we can win 2 of the next three games then we are in with a top chance of finals action this year. to be 4-2 or even 5-1 would be great for us and our confidence.

I agree...Tredrea is doing just as good as he was last year! If not better!!

The first two games last year he got these stats:

8 touches 3 marks 1.1
11 touches 6 marks 1.2

he ended up with an average of the year of 13 touches 5 marks and 1.5 goals a game!

So far this year he has:
11 touches 7 marks 3 goals
10 touches 4 marks 1 goal

He is averaging 2 goals a game...if he gets 40 goals this year that will be great i reckon. Tredrea hasnt and never will be a 60-70-80 goal a year player. We cannot expect him to do this at CHF.
He is doing pretty well for himself.

You know guys, I think we are headed for a great year!!!!! 5-1 is quite feasable.

The Essendon loss was the first time I have ever been ok (well not angry) with a loss, because even though we were down we still persisted with going down the middle of the ground and still showed a bit of confidence. It was good to see the players not drop their bundle because of a bit of tough competition.

I want to know what everyone thinks of young josh carr's preformances????

As for tredrea all that he needs now is a bit of confidence in front of goal and hell be right.
