Toast How can this Hawthorn side be stopped?

You can plan for it it's whether you have the capability on the day to stop it. Pretty sure most weeks coaches plan for what Geelong are going to do as an eg and the fact Danger will spend lots of time forward but it doesn't mean you have the ability to do something about it on the day. Think that's what he is referring to.
I get what you're saying, I just didn't like his response. It felt like a Matthew Nicks post loss presser. I disagreed with his comments about the first quarter being unacceptable as if Hawks didn't rock up. The truth was that they got outplayed and outcoached. Maybe it was a hard pill for him to swallow which I could acept.

I don't believe him when he said that they were prepared, and were aware of Ports intention to play Rozee off half back, SPP, and Rozee changes threw them off completely. Mitchell had no plan for that move.
Everyone knew as it was mentioned in the pregame.

Hang on, you actually think Hawthorn were playing to their ability in the first half? 😂

Got outplayed by a rampaging Port. I think with exception to the first 5 minutes, you guys rallied but our defences were strong.

We most definitely didn't turn up all the key metrics would tell you that. Plus 20 CP down to half time suggests we turned our toes up when the game was at its hottest. Wasn't just all Port we had a shocker.

Yeh Mitchell lost his composure a bit there. Not his finest moment. By all means stick up for a player and call Ken out on his sore winner/childish antics - but bringing the whole "old man verus young boy" dialog was odd
Sorry, just choked on my beer.

Almost 6 months on and this is the first time I’ve seen a Hawthorn poster admit on the BF main board that Mitchell carried on and was exaggerated with his dialogue in the post match PC.

I’m in awe of you, LP.

The whole event made a lot of people look pretty ordinary and petulant, not least of all Ken, but also a number of former Hawthorn greats who regularly went over the edge and couldn’t squeal loud enough about a plane celebration and also Mitchell and Sicily for their reactions.

However, getting a Hawthorn fan to openly acknowledge Comrade Mitchell and Comrade Sicily probably did themselves no favours and could have handled things better has been near impossible.

I just fear for your safety now and hope the Ministry of Hawthorn Security don’t come knocking and take you away for re-education. Please advise us of your safety ASAP.

Tell us all about these systems and your Captains role in them from yesterdays game SYL.
Defence wasn't our problem if you watched the game. It's the turnovers and some of it under no pressure where no defence is going to stop them. Even then Geelong didn't Score that much and we had our chances to win that some bad goal kicking and some poor skills killed our effort to win. We won most stats for the day

Yes, but when Sic was reluctant to chase his man in the opening minutes of last weeks game SYL suggested the defender Captain was just using licence to 'hand off' responsibility to someone else as the ball sailed over his head for one of many first half goals.
I guess if thats the standards being shown by your no1 guy, followed up be an even worse performance yesterday, its hardly suprising that the rest of the team arent as invested as they should be.

I think you can say what you like about his performance but he has single handed won us games in the past and last year with a bung shoulder. He is a class act having a couple of off games doesn't change that

Hawks have a lot of upside, a pretty unconvincing performance had them a kick or 2 from winning against the footy equivalent of a beautifully conducted orchestra, Geelong.

The i50 work was poor. Gunston and Chol kicked 3 goals each, on paper, not bad, but the eye test sees Gunston with a new lease of life finding space providing options, and Chol looking lackadaisical, even uninterested at times, but still, he pops up with the ball. I think he needs to stamp his size, weight and authority more emphatically. He will be a 50 50 prospect come finals as to whether he fires or not. That Sicily gets thrown forward, and Hardwick too, highlights the forward half inconsistency.

The good news is, they have time to work it out. It may be just a tweak that is required to get it working better.

They moved the ball inconsistently as well, if that can be a bit more precise, then they'll be hard to stop.

Round 12 vs Pies at the G will be instructive on how the season will pan out.

Without key forwards it's tough to be top 4.
I don't think they can rely on Chol. Dear is still very young and a way off guys like Mitch G as a similar player. Sicily needs to stay in defence.

Im not entirely convinced. Their wins hsvent been big wins. Failed against two teams playing good footy.

Doubt they beat Pies or Crows.

Ive got them for 8 wins 4 losses 5 50/50

10 to 11 more wins

Still think they play finals. 6 to 7

Have had a pretty good run from the umpires too this year.
6-0 free kick for count
+20 free's in the 2 games they've lost
12 frees in a row to get them back from 70pts down against us.

Take that clear advantage away and they're average.
What do you make of that?

You don't like or rate us we got the message the first 100 times.

Let's see.
They are far from finished product.

Also have they got multiple game plans. Can they adapt. This is what makes the likes of Chris Scott a great coach.

Less whinging, back up the socials with effort.

Hahaha less whingeing. We beat Geelong on all metrics for the game. You are whingeing more about less whingeing than the Hawks are. We should have won the game but for it not some really bad execution errors. We didn't take our chances thats on us but whingeing and not playing with effort give it a rest you have NFI

Tough draw still have Brisbane, Adelaide & Collingwood x 2.

Also play Freo & Gold Coast away.

St Kilda & Western Bulldogs at Marvel which are tougher than playing them at the G.

We are no certainty to make the 8 especially with Day out long term really the last player we could afford to lose.

Need a 2nd tall to help out Chol i would play Sis forward until Dear is ready or Lewis comes back.

What do you make of that?
Well theres a clear desire to have them up the ladder.
Looking at the ladder, and I know its only early, but its clear outside of the Pies and the consistent Cats, there is little likelihood of genuine contenders from Victoria as we saw last year.
You cant rely on Saints, Bombers or Carlton to keep it balanced.
We're likely to get on a run which will put us in the 8, likely at the expense of the Dogs
If theres no balance theres less chance of Vic representation deep in finals and we know they wont cop that too often.

So it is all a conspiracy to have more vic clubs in the finals.

Tin foil hat stuff.
