Toast How can this Hawthorn side be stopped?

I wish.

Reality is, as has been the case for 2 months, Sam has refused to rest him and blind Freddy can see its only come about now due to external commentary of his lack of effort.
So whilst he probably is carrying something, he'd be in the team again this week if not for the talk from last week.
The official line is out injured, but he's been dropped.

I doubt it'll solve any of your issues though, Sam has you playing on emotion.
It'll carry you when youre riding the wave, but the troughs can be season derailing as has been the case.
You werent expecting to get what you copped in GR, its severely dented your confidence and your deep in the trough.
It'll turn again, but the damage is done to your flag hopes this year.
Our handling of him has been poor imo there has been talk of an injury for several weeks now.

I think he should have either been rested earlier or been played forward Mitchell seems a little stubborn at times.

Will be interesting to see how the back 6 go without him.

Btw how the **** can you be a Centrals & Power supporter doesn’t make sense.

Grew up in Elizabeth/Munno, actually followed Hawks in VFL until mid 90's due to Platts but never ventured further than SANFL games live.
When Adelaide Came in and I was working at Toyota in 95 I got free tickets to AFL games which gave me the bug but could never relate to the chardonnay sippers so when Port came in I figured they're as working class as us out North, might aswell.
Rest is history.

Shades of Essendon 2017-2018 about the hawks. Got a bit excited about doing well with an easy draw then traded early picks for mature players thinking they are closer than they really are.

Didn’t work out well for the bombers and with Tassie set to take all the good picks for the next few years… 😬

Essendon had the fifth oldest list in that period, Hawthorn last year had the second youngest.

Also, last year Hawthorn not only won a final but they were a goalpost away from a preliminary final. When was the last time Essendon won a final?

It would likely be beneficial to possess some understanding of football matters when participating in discussions on a football forum.

Its tricky when he's captain especially if he was keen to play

Nah, it was obvious early on, should have been rested after the bye but I guess the situation with Ken probably forced their hand, then the Cats was too big of a game to miss.
Picked up a few touches in the subsequent wins but the actual effort and movement wasnt there.
Had he sat out rounds 5 to 9 off the bye he'd have been right to go against the Suns and they'd probably be in a better position, certainly no worse.

I said it at the time, losing to Kenny's aeroplanes (who had just lost a home QF by 280 points) could leave some scarring for 2025. Especially if some other teams started applying pressure and making it hard for Hawthorn to flick the ball around.

The easy fixture list early is just starting to even out. I think it was good for Hawthorn to get that cruisy start to bank wins. A tough start and 1-5 would've meant the season was over early.

There’s always a one word answer.
The joke about Port Adelaide on the OP question was the one word answer - “Finals”. At least we’re too crap to worry about it this season.

For Hawthorn, I think for 2025 is the one-word answer - “Wait.”

Hawks looking good and could win a 3-peat this year. AFL, AFLW and Box Hill
Box Hill have fallen away a little, and with Dear injured and Lewis playing last night they are now short of tall forwards.

Hawthorn on the brink of another dynasty in 10 years shows the disparity and gulf between the top and bottom sides is a worrying trend for the AFL

Hawks have Karl Amon and Josh Battle as free agents. Calsher dear as a pick 56 father son. All others have been drafted, traded or rookie draft.

Don't have as many A graders as the other remaining finalists. But most players do their job week in and week out

This.

Shit clubs keep making excuses for why they suck. A greater focus on better drafting and development is a pretty decent start.

Mr September was an unseated mid season pickup. Our ruck was the backup at Freo.

Did this hawthorn side drink its own bath water?

Doubt it.

Got beaten by the best team in the comp after three hard slogs away from home. Fired our best shot early but it wasn't enough.

We didn't lie down and we hit back a few times but Geelong were too good in the end. It took Dangerfield turning back the clock 10 years to play one of his best games ever to will his side to victory.

Hopefully we get to see a fully fit Will Day come September - it's such a shame he hasn't been able to play a final yet (kids born to play finals footy IMO). Think he's the difference between us being a top 4 side and a flag contender. Midfield is just batting a bit too thin when Newcombe gets tagged by a big body.
