You're just looking at goals. We've been bottom of the table for defensive pressure and keeping the ball in the 50. Thats a small forwards main aim, goals come after that. Most of his selfish play is seen at the game. Of course he's still capable with a ball in his hands, he's a crafty skillful player playing professionally for 12 years. We are lacking everything else. Everyone throws shade at Hill for his defensive efforts but when LeCras is mentioned it's like shooting bambi. We play a tall forward line, we can't have afford a selfish, non defensive, slow forward in the team.
2016 was the second most tackles he's ever had in his career and I'm pretty sure he finished about 7th in total tackles for the club.

the balance between youth and experienced needs to be kept ..... as much as we would love to see 10 plus talented18 year olds out there getting game time ..... you only have to look at first 2 years of the Suns and Giants to see it doesn't win many games.... do we really want 2 years in the wilderness and no guarantee to come out successfully the other end (suns)
So what you're saying is...

You can't go too far the other way?

Sorry what balance? We were the oldest team in the league by a fair way last year and hardly played any young players, there was no balance whatsoever
There is a Cole, I mean hole in our list.

But thats a bit like saying the umpiring is only balanced if each team gets the same number of frees. If East Perth was full of youngsters screaming out for a game, then thats unbalanced, but they just wernt. We were the oldest list, because we had the fewest young players putting their hand up imop. Being younger because we played young players just for the sake of playing young players is also unbalanced.

The thread is about how deep we cut now, at no point did I say we were balanced this year , I'm saying we can't go stupid the other way and cull everyone

Up early today! How are the works going down the road at Eagles HQ?

There were plenty of games where we could have put in an extra younger player. or two. I'm not saying we should have emptied the team out of all our experience but for example there was a point where we were rotating Hill/Masten/Wellingham into and out of the side. My opinion is that instead of doing this we should have been giving these games to a young developing player, none of those older guys who played provided anything of value in those games.

He kicked 38 goals & came 7th in our B&F so wasn't that bad. Think Le Cras gets marked harshly when comparing him to when he was at his best. Last year from memory he was also used in the midfield at times. Sure he's at the end of his career and taking into account he's been playing injured, if he can get his body right in the off season he can still be of value to the team.

If he was injured why were we playing him? If he was hurt no problems you can play hurt but not injured. It’s an indictment on our coaches/mc to play a 31 year old who was battling with an injury for most of the year.

because injured he offered more than any at East Perth, it isn't rocket science

No worries Einstein..,he offered heaps, went 5 games without a goal at one stage not bad when your job is to kick goals. I’d rather give a fully fit youngster an opportunity than an injured 32 year old.

like the guy? what's his name we gave a few games to and didn't get more that a touch or two down forwards. can not recall his name but is evidently struggling in the WAFL. Solid bloke with some promise. lacked pace and skill - but forward is the toughest spot so we run with the smartest.

We also gave parto a run up forward - he showed poise and promise but not more when we had to win.

We could have given Rioli a run he would have outpaced GWS for four quarters.

Didn't LeCras kick three or so against the crows and port?

Would probably help if we didn't keep shoehorning midfielders into the small forward spot. It's not surprising Partington & Karpany didn't show much when they played out position for most of their AFL games. If we draft a genuine young small forward I would much rather give him and Rioli games than Lecras

You guys do realise that Simpson and his band of crazy vozzos think we have done well and our season was a success and any deep list cutting is waaay off the agenda.

Yeah I mean that contradicts everything Simpson has communicated through his press conferences since the early stages of the year but sure.
