How deep can we cut?

The 'cull' will be interesting. On the one hand we have probably got the most out of the likes of Masten, Scholfield, Lecras, Cripps & Wellingham et al at the moment. I am not convinced these 'depth' players won't be selected ahead of youth come round 1 2018 thereby again delaying a required transition.

At the same time I don't want to see a squad without experience lending a developmental hand to the youth at East Perth.

I suspect the 'list management team' will be making some decisions that could go either way between now and final list submissions. None of us will be happy.

Priddis , Mitchell, retired . Masten delist.
Lecras Hill delist
Butler ,retired Schofield delist
Lamb delist
Rookies Petrie and Tunbridge retired delisted
Brophy retired Catb .
Giles delist

I'd like this to happen but if Simpson gets his way, there won't be any changes other than the retirees. He says as much in his press conference

The criticism that Simpson received towards the back end of the season, that forced his hand and made him select partington, is unfortunately going to dictate list management. Simpson is desperate to retain his position as he relocated his family to WA. Lecras is going nowhere and will not be a "depth" player but will be a full season game day player. Unfortunately this will also spell the end for simpson.

Reading the post game paper prognosis ....one option given is Trade Kennedy now 30 years of age with the Eagles not contending possibly for a few years , trading Kennedy to a team contending would be an option for our rebuild ...... but the much loved Eagle wont be traded .

If we did trade our star player we then need to find an immediate forward line again. ...so really its not an option just need a good trade period and off season ....hoping that players like Snadden and Watson can play AFL for us next season , maybe possible with all the players that are going .

Great waste of a list spot, sounds like something we'd do
Depending on who goes this year they may not mind getting rid of him next year. We've already lost 3 guys off the main list and we haven't got to delisted players yet. Hill and Giles are likely to go. Lamb and Wellingham are possible too. Maybe that's what Simmo meant by we cant get rid of everyone.

True, we can go in with a list of 38 though and have 6 Cat A rookies (who we only have to contract for 1 year). There's no real disadvantage to doing this as of next year either because any Category A rookie can play games without being upgraded. I'd rather have a rookie who has the chance to turn into something than a broken down Lecras who retires at the bye.

I can see Lecras getting another year but retiring early in the season when he realises his body isn't up to it anymore.

You think this selfish excuse of a potato will retire at any stage? You know he is one of the highest paid eagles right? He signed that stellar contract after a patch of good form. He wants the gravy train to continue as long as possible. He's got more houses to buy.

That's why he will sign the extra year instead of retiring now.

Very interested about Simpson's constant claims that the make up of the squad will be 'completely different'

Not actually expecting it to be that different but it will make the off-season interesting to follow at least.

Don't care how low we drop next year, I just want to see some meaningful change.

Who on earth suggested that?! What do they think we're going to get for him?
