How deep can we cut?

A couple of asute posters have made the point.

Its fine to cut deep but what are the replacements?

If there were 20 better footballers we could pick we would cut 20.

But there isn't.

We only have 4 decent draft picks, after that its very hit and miss.

Batches of six for the next two years or so. We don't have much beyond Watson screaming for an elevation to the main list at the moment.

Lamb can be called many things but "list clogger" shouldn't be one of them :sheep:

For starters his WAFL form is decent, secondly he's a tall so they should be given longer to develop and bloom, thirdly there is the fact he doesn't appear to have a set position as yet... i campaigned as all hell last off season for WCE to start using him in defense, didn't eventuate.

Fourthly he's only young and there are plenty of older spuds with less upside around him still on the list (Marsden, Hutchings, Mcinnes, Tunners)

And fifthly, if he was at any other club i think he would have an opportunity to show his wares at AFL level by now. But because Darling is untouchable, despite poor form and JK is JK, he is destined for the WAFL for the rest of his life unless he has a month of 30 disposal, 5 goal games and manages to cure AIDS.

I wouldn't hold onto Lamb because i see him burning us in any prospective trade.

I think he's got some genuine ability. He's quick, has great endurance and is a great user by foot. Ultimately putting him behind the ball makes a whole bunch of sense and it would really simplify his game. Could see him going into Yeo's role if developed there.

- Lecras - Has to go. He's been a great player for the club but he's cooked. Hopefully this is obvious to all.
- Masten - Trade without hesitation if someone actually wants him. Retain if we are stuck with his contract. Delist if we aren't.
- Schofield - Trade Block for sure (I think there will be some interest). Assess value to trade/retain for depth.
- Wellingham - If they are being serious, he goes...but considering he was just recalled for a final, I think he'll stay.
- Hill - Clearly gone.
- Giles - I would assume also gone.
- Mackenzie - Retain. Showed enough to suggest he can still play and Barrass is not quite there yet.

The other name not yet mention is Andrew Gaff. Put him on the trading block and see if there is a mediocre Vic side willing to cough up a late first round pick. He is absolute fools gold and despite to lack of talent in the middle, he's expendable.

Barrass will get there when it's just him and McGovern as the big defenders. He needs that responsibility to develop his obvious talent. With Mackenzie and/or Schofield in the side he plays like he's a back up to the back up. Simpson needs to tell him it's his time to stand tall.

Hill, Masten, Wellingham, Giles, Lamb are clearly not in our future, need to go. LeCras would need a miracle to hang on. Won't get anything for any of them. AFAIC Jetta can go too. He's produced about 6 decent quarters of footy in 2 years and is probably on a handy pay packet. Only puts in when the mood strikes him. Hutchings is a trier, no more, no less. Cripps is one dimensional, which you can live if somebody complements that. But we haven't had a crumbing forward since Phil Matera. Desperate for someone like that, Rioli is a punt.

McInnes has been there long enough to see if he can make it or not. Decison time. Partington looks like he might be a handy player, but no more. Wasn't remotely convinced by Mutimer. Hope I'm wrong (I was about Petrie).

The hope is that if Naitanui returns at his previous level we'll be a vastly improved outfit. Fingers crossed, which is not what you want going into next season.

- Lecras (no deal - retire pls)
- Masten (trade bait)
- Schofield (trade bait)
- Wellingham (keep)
- Hill (delist)
- Giles (delist)
- Mackenzie (keep)
- McInness (delist)
- Tunbridge (delist)

Cut deep and maximise draft picks. Masten and Schofield for third rounders, I heard a rumour saying Adelaide may be interested in Priddis in a Mitchell type trade. If that comes off then we have two extra thirds and maybe a fourth.

Lecras - depth only and can not stand up in big games - 50% WAFL next year
Masten gone - un-tradeable
Schofield & Wellingham - depth only and can not stand up in big games - 50% WAFL next year (let him go if he wants)
Hill - gone
Giles Gone
Mackenzie - valuable player who frees up the others
Cripps- trade as he is a gimp
Hutchings - depth only
How do you trade a gimp?

To be fair though it can't be easy coming over here as a young player and playing WAFL week in and week out for 3 years knowing that even if you are playing well there probably isn't a spot for you in the seniors anyway. Its not an excuse but in reality even the blokes playing seniors look like they struggle to stay motivated week to week. And if you look at the players who have been rewarded with a few senior games its not necessarily been due to outstanding WAFL form, except for Partington, but more just because they were smalls who could slide in or out of the last spot in the 22. How many talls have made a debut since Lamb played as an emergency in rd 1 2015? None that I am aware of. For Lamb to break into the side in his time so far he's needed probably Darling or Le Cras to come out for some reason. Neither has ever been dropped on form. And between them in the last 3 years they have probably missed about 5 games with injury, maybe. The way we've used Petrie this year has only made it harder for him to press for selection because nearly every week match committee is having to debate whether or not we're going in too tall. Even if he was on fire at WAFL level the planets would still have to align for him to get past that discussion. Its apples and oranges really.

Lets say Simpson just doesn't rate him and has no intention of ever playing him, and realistically a 2 year deal for Le Cras would probably make that quite likely. in 2020 he'll still be only 24 [ie still youth in WCE terms] and a new coach might have a bit of imagination and the list might look a fair bit different and a 193cm utility with Andrew Gaff level endurance might be something you can try to make work.
An analysis that presupposes he played well, and other factors kept him out, where I would have thought it was the lack of playing well that kept him out?

Lamb needs to be played on a wing ffs. Can run all day, and provides a marking target coming out of defence. I think they finally realised that coming towards the end of East Perth's season. He's got another year coming up, let's hope we see the best of him.

Priddis is not playing on anywhere yesterday said he is too slow in modern day footy now although finals footy is more contested which suited Priddis .
Priddis has pulled the pin no more ....

It's unforgivable he hasn't been given a run in 3 years.

Especially his year when we lost petrie with a broken hand at the start of the year.

Can't see how he could burn us in a trade given if he went now we would likely receive pick 60+

What dirt does Lecca have on Simmo that he's blackmailing him with?

COME ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If Lecras puts one foot on the field in 2018..... fml not sure I could watch it. Maybe the AFL has changed the rules and you're allowed prosthetic hips in the AFL?
