Priddis , Mitchell, retired . Masten delist.
Lecras Hill delist
Butler ,retired Schofield delist
Lamb delist
Rookies Petrie and Tunbridge retired delisted
Brophy retired Catb .
Giles delist

Can't tell if serious but liked this because that is 9 senior list changes.

Here is a list of players picked in the 9th round of the draft that have played more than 2 AFL games

.....

That is all

What dirt does Lecca have on Simmo that he's blackmailing him with?

COME ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If Lecras puts one foot on the field in 2018..... fml not sure I could watch it. Maybe the AFL has changed the rules and you're allowed prosthetic hips in the AFL?

That was the call this year. He should have been paid out last year. He was woeful in 2016 as well. There is now way he has justified another contract. He may be a good weekday player and have plenty of friends but he is a disgrace on the field.

lol @ people thinking we delist / retire 10+ players.

Would love to see how you posters think we go about drafting... what player at pick 105 do you think will offer more than Schofield/Lamb/Masten/Wellingham/Lecras/Hutchings?

That's the point. We know what they offer and it hasn't won as jack so why keep them??? Better to go backwards with some youth than stay the same with hacks

I was trying to find the 12 changes to the list Simmo hinted at

- Lecras - Has to go. He's been a great player for the club but he's cooked. Hopefully this is obvious to all.
- Masten - Trade without hesitation if someone actually wants him. Retain if we are stuck with his contract. Delist if we aren't.
- Schofield - Trade Block for sure (I think there will be some interest). Assess value to trade/retain for depth.
- Wellingham - If they are being serious, he goes...but considering he was just recalled for a final, I think he'll stay.
- Hill - Clearly gone.
- Giles - I would assume also gone.
- Mackenzie - Retain. Showed enough to suggest he can still play and Barrass is not quite there yet.

The other name not yet mention is Andrew Gaff. Put him on the trading block and see if there is a mediocre Vic side willing to cough up a late first round pick. He is absolute fools gold and despite to lack of talent in the middle, he's expendable.
Keep Giles but lose Vardy??

All good. I had a vision of the Simpsons episode from your post.

TBH I think a lot of people will be disappointed with our list next year, as I don't see the cuts anywhere as deep as most here have called for.

I still think Weller's or even Lecras on a one year deal is better than a 6th round draft pick which has to have a 2 year deal from my understanding

We need to be realistic about this....

LeCras - Delist. In pretty much the same boat as Priddis, 2017 was crap so why have an even shitter 2018? Just go out a champion on your own terms.
Masten - Trade? He's contracted till 2019 (for some reason)
Schofield - keep for depth or trade, i'm fine with either
Wellingham - keep for depth, he's not that bad a player and since he's out of contract we can offer him less $$
Hill - Delist. Not much else to say here.
Giles - Same as Hill
Mackenzie - same as wellingham, half decent player who may be willing to accept less for another year or two

Lamb, McInnes, Tunbridge, Goyter all gone

This leaves 4 senior spots open, with possibly 6 if trades can be worked out for Masto and Schofield. If we can get trades i'd be going after draft picks, aiming around the round 2/3 mark, should be able to fill the list up with a lot of skillful and quick youth

because wellingham can actually play AFL when he's in form, and even when he's out of form hes a decent WAFL player who will put pressure on the mids

a round 9 pick is most likely going to be some lanky kid that plays his first season in the WAFL reserves and gets delisted as soon as his contract is up

Realistically 5 or 6 retiring /delisting from main list. If we trade 3 into the club the round 9 draft pick will be a pass

Mitchell, Priddis, Butler and Cavka all retiring from the senior list and Petrie from the rookie list.

My mail is Giles's body is cooked and he'll be forced to retired, making it five off the main list.

Lamb is likely to be traded back home, giving Hill, Masten, Wellingham and Le Cras another season.

Could well be wrong, but just my read of it.

Go the MIGHTY Eagles in 2018!

Cavka went last year didn't he?

Guess you missed the mail where Lamb is signing a one year extension soon

Lamb needs to be played on a wing ffs. Can run all day, and provides a marking target coming out of defence. I think they finally realised that coming towards the end of East Perth's season. He's got another year coming up, let's hope we see the best of him.
It would be nice to have a tall who can play that high target. I remember when Lynch reinvented himself in 2011. We used him as a tall forward marking option who pushed up the wings around the middle of the ground.. He'd take powerful marks and bomb it down to Jack or Josh

Gaff is what is stopping us from free fall?

Seriously?

Have you seen him play this year?

He's a free agent at the 2018 too...

If we just lost Gaff from the midfield we could cover it, but losing three of our best senior mids in him, Mitchell and Priddis (not getting into the Priddis debate here btw) would be way too much for us to cover with not much coming through from the youth.

He averaged 29.7 disposals as well, which is a pretty decent effort even if it wasn't best year. Even if he's not as flashy as like a Shuey, that's still a lot of hard running and link up that we'd miss if he went. I thought I heard he was carrying an injury this year as well, which would help explain why he was a bit off his best.

Gaff is done, he won't go in hard and is just a wide receiver who kicks it only just over a jam tin.

I don't think a scorched earth policy is truly required. You can't just bring in 15 teenagers and 20 year olds into the 22 and expect in a few years they will all be champions.

Still Getting more youth in is the first order of business so. ... here are my outs.

1. LeCras. Love what LeCras has done for the club but he should go. Gives more opportunity to Rioli, Karpany

2. Schofield. 4th in the pecking order.

3. Hill. Definitely past his time

4. Hutchings. An okay tagger sometimes. Teach Nelson the dark arts of tagging instead.

5.6.7.8. Any number of the WAFLers that can't get a game.

Ad in the four already retired and you've got a good injection of youth.

I'm keeping masten and Wellingham as I think they will serve a purpose in this rebuild. Stop the team from completely dropping off. That is important to keep promising interstate players and to encourage established players to come to the Eagles

Why keep Masten & not Hill?

An analysis that presupposes he played well, and other factors kept him out, where I would have thought it was the lack of playing well that kept him out?

And how would your analysis of the situation contend with the fact the he'd never played a WALF game at the time he made his debut? Travelled as an emergency, probably because Jack Darling missed a chunk of preseason with a foot injury there wasn't an abundance of talls in the side at that moment. Came on late in the first quarter for Brown and had 10 possessions, took 4 marks including a couple of nice ones and kicked a goal. Looked good.

Jack Nelson made his debut in the same game, had more minutes and less impact but was still picked the week after while Lamb was omitted for Duggan to make his debut. Duggo managed 5 possessions and kicked a point in that debut. Yet, he held his spot and the week after and dropped to 4 possessions. Held his spot again and jumped up to 11 possessions. 3 games, 20 possessions. On fire. Held his spot again and in his 4th game it paid off and he collected 25 possessions and became our next GOAT player. Took his 3 nothing games to find his feet. [then another 3 seasons and 50ish games to find them again ;)] Nothing wrong with that. Nelson by this stage is up to 4 games and goes forward, 9 possessions 1 goal. Still less than Lamb on debut. Nelson gets rested a week then is back the week after as a sub and went on the get more games as the season went on despite being pretty ordinary.

In the same period Scott Lycett, Fraser McGinnes, Cal Sinclair and Patrick McGinnity were rolled through the forward line too. Even Gov got omitted one week in there. And up until round 11 when Darling came back the team was very unsettled. Lamb was probably a bit stiff not to get another call up in those 10 weeks given Match Committee was handing out spots like candy on christmas morning. By the back end of 2015 they realised we were onto something with the team they had and pulled up the draw bridge.

Prior to this, no, Lamb or the other kids WAFL form wasn't a factor because we were a side that missed finals in 2014 and assumed once Brown and MacKenzie did knee's our season was over so we were testing our depth. We were giving senior games to fresh draftee's with no WALF exposure. Because we could.

After that, we became in the clubs eyes in a Premiership window and the clear policy from then to now has been back the 22, forced changes only. With 1 spot up for grabs for any small running player who can come in and play out of position on a HFF or HBF. Its a different barrier to entry which makes it relatively easy for a Nelson, Cole, Partington to come into that spot [or a back door for Masten, Wellingham or Hill return through] because its really a nothing spot.

For Lamb to come into the side at 193cm his WAFL form would have to demand we drop a different calibre of player like Darling or Le Cras. Its not the same. We have the most elite spine in the comp and most weeks go in with an extra tall or even an extra 2 talls just because you can't not give games to players of that class. It makes it pretty much impossible for Lamb to get the same kind of opportunity as a tall in a side with AA level talent on every line compared to the opportunity thats there for an aspiring mid looking for a game in an area we have very little depth in. His best opportunity in 3 years was the 4 games they played Le Cras this year which the club has now admitted he was really struggling with his hip injury. That was a wasted opportunity to try a different forward mix, and also a missed opportunity to freshen a senior player up who was out on his feet and went goalless those games.

With all the retirements, next year we may well start in a similar way to 2015 again and Lamb should at least be allowed to be in the mix for that. He may of played plenty of bad games at WALF level, but he's never played a bad one at AFL level. Give him a block of 3, its what all the other kids have been given, if he stinks delist for 2019.

Was it pretty much from round 2 2015 to now?
No but a large part of your post is comparing Lamb's opportunities (or lack thereof) in 2015 which doesn't really work when you consider he was injured that year.

That said, I agree with you and Lamb should definitely have more than 1 career game in his 3 years on the list. At the very least he should have gotten a shot when JK was out for an extended period this year.
