Not this year

Fine with those two getting one year.
we have Rioli, Karpany and Cripps all playing that role with Lamb and Waterman also in the wings. If he is fine with playing at EP and is used for depth then i am 100% fine with his re-signing.

Lecras is still currently a better player than all of those guys. Put em up against him. think about it? Tell us why the others are better? should we not play our best players?
here I'll help u a bit
Lamb.. not dynamic enough. is competing with Darling or more as a tall forward option
Waterman ? ? ?
Karps - got a longer kick but no non-preferred. Faster runner
Rioli is the only one you could argue is 'better' because we need a x-factor crumbing player. Lecras still has those abilities too. And he is certainly is better than Cripps.
And is a better mark and kick (field, snap and goal kick) than all of them even though he's got more munted (shorter) now he is older

I think our problem with small forwards is that we expect them to run through the midfield and then wonder why they are too buggered to act as the small forward when the ball is in our forward line. No chance to do much crumbing.

Is this a serious post?

I mean Sam Mitchell is, right now, better than pretty much every 17/18 year old that will be drafted this year. Using your logic we should keep him or at least trade him for that number 1 pick right?

If you are 31 and in deep decline and the club is clearly in for a rebuild why the **** are you getting re signed? Unless you are an absolute jet of a leader at the club... Or Simmos best mate :)

I can live with Lecca getting an extension provided he is dropped if form warrants it. Same for Emac.

Wellingham and Lamb get one year deals, Hillydard is gone, Giles is gone. Masten traded or gone. Schofield traded.

First test for our offseason list management failed by retaining a player who is so obviously past it :crossmark:

Typically holding on to too much dead wood, for too long, it's the clubs mantra. I'd hate to be Karpany, Rioli, or even Venables next year as it looks like a full time gig in the starting 22 forward line has just been filled by a 32 year old.

It's disgusting

They are not rebuilding.

This is the key point.

If he's injury free and gets a full pre-season, he's best 22 quite comfortably. If Simpson tries to play him through an injury then he hasn't learnt much.

Rioli is the competition here, Karpany realistically is more of a midfielder.

A different look in the side is with him out. Shit decision. Should have been moved on this year.

I still think we look better with only two Defenders and maybe an extra if we play an overly tall team so Emac for a year makes sence.

Leccra on the other hand is an odd one in that if he did leave we dont lose anything as we have Rioli, Karpany and Cripps all playing that role with Lamb and Waterman also in the wings. If he is fine with playing at EP and is used for depth then i am 100% fine with his re-signing.
Le Cras has been better than Cripps this year - think both of them have been playing injured however. Cripps has been a shadow of his former self when you compare him to previous years. Also there are always injuries during a season - you can't replace all of the older players in one year as the Club has to manage the list. Giving both Le Cras & EMac just the one year is ok by me.

If LeCras was carrying a hip injury this year why was he so shit in 2016?
He kicked 38 goals & came 7th in our B&F so wasn't that bad. Think Le Cras gets marked harshly when comparing him to when he was at his best. Last year from memory he was also used in the midfield at times. Sure he's at the end of his career and taking into account he's been playing injured, if he can get his body right in the off season he can still be of value to the team.

In fact, it is the only sensible decision

the balance between youth and experienced needs to be kept ..... as much as we would love to see 10 plus talented18 year olds out there getting game time ..... you only have to look at first 2 years of the Suns and Giants to see it doesn't win many games.... do we really want 2 years in the wilderness and no guarantee to come out successfully the other end (suns)

You're just looking at goals. We've been bottom of the table for defensive pressure and keeping the ball in the 50. Thats a small forwards main aim, goals come after that. Most of his selfish play is seen at the game. Of course he's still capable with a ball in his hands, he's a crafty skillful player playing professionally for 12 years. We are lacking everything else. Everyone throws shade at Hill for his defensive efforts but when LeCras is mentioned it's like shooting bambi. We play a tall forward line, we can't have afford a selfish, non defensive, slow forward in the team.

Sorry what balance? We were the oldest team in the league by a fair way last year and hardly played any young players, there was no balance whatsoever
