Someone wrote on here about hurn not being a great leader. Look at the way Cotchin played over the finals. He was manic. Diving in everywhere (lucky to play in gf but he was going hard 4 the ball)
Other than a bump on boak a couple years ago i cant remember much other than him sweeping up in the backline. Look i like the guy and hes a good kick etc but maybe we should look to a young guy to build a list around.

Glass, Judd, Cousins. Hard act to follow but i agree, i also feel it could have taken away from his game as i think he's regressed

I'm not sold on this "at least we got finals finals experience into them" mantra anymore. Why? Because the Tigers and Bulldogs swept the finals series in the last 2 seasons with only a handful of players even playing in a final. I'm not saying its not valuable experience, it is, but what is important is a culture of winning, a culture of doing anything at all costs to win. We have lost that as a group and as an organisation. We can have all the superstars in the world but if we are missing that culture we are nowhere.
Exactly right. This idiotic idea of working out arse off all year to get into the final's and then throwing it away to get games into youngsters.

The coaching group made plenty of mistakes this year, and should be accountable for not giving games to our kids earlier in the season. But come finals, I'll back a decrepit lecras over a first gamer every single time

He has regressed. His decision making, his run and his kick, all gone backwards. Time we give it to Shuey and let this superstar lead us to the next flag.

Yes, the idea that the coaching group could treat a final, and possibly the most important game some of the players have played, as anything other than win at all cost is poison.

If that mindset gets into the playing group, it can be hard to get out. Why should a player put everything on the line for a game, if the coaches pick and choose.

Thats the culture of Melbourne for a decade.

If we are basically tanking finals, we don't deserve to play them imop.

In fairness to your wonderful point - lecras was amazing against gw..... oh hang on

Ive seen first gamers who ended up delisted play better than him

LeCras is cooked.

End of.

So we gave him a year extension lol. For what ****ing reason? We're obviously not in premiership contention so why the **** give a veteran out of form player another year to line his bank account?

With the retirements of Priddis, Butler, Petrie and Mitchell, we need his "experience".

And look where all the experience got us this year...

I made a point of playing 1 kid Partington I stead of wellingham and people lose their minds as if we are saying play a Colts team.

There was absolutely zero point to wellingham playing in his place. The team was winning.
Why change a winning team?

We knew exactly what we would get with wellingham and he didn't offer anything other than that.

The inly hindsight you needed was his last two years
I think you are missing the point of the argument. The argument is not about whether Parto was a better selection than LeCras.

Its about people saying that the final didn't matter, as we were going to lose anyway, and therefore the coaches should have played Parto regardless of which they thought better, so he could get some `practice` in a final.

My argument is, in a final, you go with what you think is your best team on the day. You never treat it as a scratch match to blood youngsters.

If the coaches sit down and determine Parto is in the best team, then pick him. However, you never pick someone in a final on the basis, `he needs some finals experience`, thats crap.

People are talking about cutting up to a quarter of our club. I can say with absolute certainty that LeCras will offer more next year than a pick in 100s. There's no doubt he's in the way out but either he shows some desperation and plays well or he makes one of the young players earn their spot. He's better than a low draft pick or a trade for some other club's hack.

Think Parto was showing signs of tiredness at the end so think that's why he wasn't picked to play.

Well we'll never know. Pretty sure Cox was a rookie pick. I guarantee that bloke in the 100s will be more determined to play and leave it on the park than LeCras. He plays like he's worried about getting his fishing arm broken again.

Nothing has more desire to prove his worth than a kid who didn't think he was going to get a go.

No amount of cutting is going to help more than a soft favourable draw, I think we need to think long and hard about the last 2 premierships and tank for a season or 2. We simply aren't getting the quality players leaving GWS or GCS to top up like the Victorian teams have. Our list would be capable with a very easy draw and some luck which seems to be the bigger influence, Richmond are the same team apart from a couple of new rookies and Caddy. I swear our list is as good if not better this year than theirs, granted we don't have a Dusty but he and Danger are one of a kind.

Tanking is easy, it's stopping tanking that's hard. How much do you want to risk spending the next decade as the new Melbourne or Carlton.

No way our board would let that happen, lets call it developing not tanking ;) say we decide to play the picks from the last 4 years draft and give them a run. Players like Watson, Gorter, Snadden, Rotham, Waterman and a couple of others just to give them some time in the game. We will lose a lot of games and win a few at home, its not like we are in contention for a few years now anyway. We have no excuse now to hide them away, give em their shot next year and cut them if they don't have what it takes.
