Saddo wasnt great but wasnt bad.....got pushed out easily at one stage by westoff, his dinky little kicks missed the target or were short.

in the end, he really didnt have to do much due to our dominance of the game. got lost in transition a couple of times which resulted in shots at goal for the Power

i think the run will do him good if he gets to play this week

Hammer, well he tried & battled hard....couple of times almost jumped over Brogan in the ruck contest.

got his hands to the ball a few times and just missed chasing down his opponents. will be good for the run, gets a little nervous when he has the ball but another 10 to 15 games and he should be able to calm down a little bit. still raw but so much to like!!

seems to play a decent game against Port!!

Saddington started out with about four clangers in a row, and got easily beaten every time he was up against a Port player one on one. The only time he looked half decent was when he played link man up the field. They better delist him at years end.

Hampson was... poor. I could sugar coat it but that's the truth. But he didn't get a great deal of game time and his presence allowed us to play Kreuzer as a forward. I'd be happy to see him stay in the side.

Agree totaly with your comments on Saddington, but you are a little harsh on Hampson. I thought he went ok. He did collect 12 touches his best effort so far.

Harsh when commentating on a kid, or harsh when commentating on an AFL player?

The first I'll accept, the second I won't.

I was sitting near the interchange bench and got to see a lot of the benched players. One thing that stood out to me was that Hammer wasn't toatally spent every time he came off the ground despite only being on for 5 -10 minutes stints. I think his engine is something that needs to be worked on.
As a side note, he did a massive, and I mean massive, fist pump when the final siren went as he was pacing the boundary line. This sign of enthusiasm and passion was great.

Saddo was a bit sad.
Lost puppy dog sometimes.
No influential plays or miraculous feats of endeavor.
Noticed about 3-4 dodgy mistimed kicks.
Played a link up man and hit most targets with hand balls.
Shared the ball a bit down back.
He prob deserved a shot...but it changes nothing..
Prob be gone come 2009.

I don't see Saddington staying around much longer. He may not even get a second chance this week.

Hampson will be around forever. He's got the speed and leap to make himself a superstar. He just needs to get his football brain right.

BTW, his push on some PA jerk was the greatest thing ever. He must have thought he was about to kick or something...

Don't agree. I thought he was competitive - which puts him on par with Cloke and Kruezer. Brogan had no influence. We'll see this week when he's on one of the better ruckmen in the comp, but I think he'll be better for the run.

Did some goal practice during the warm-up one-on-one with one of the coaches and boy, doesn't he need it.

Saddington didn't have to do much, but in one-on-one marking contests he's as hopeless as ever. I can't wait for The Fro to come back.

Love it when people see and appreciate the little things that get me going. Means they are right for a kick off. Good work 22. :thumbsu:
Yep, what I love about Hammer is his aggression... that bump had mongrel intent... and his push in the back to that port player was intentional to a) stop the port momentum giving our men a chance to get back and b) to knock the port player around a bit.

I though Hampson was OK, it was his best game disposal wise which shows he is learning where to position himself around the ground.

I would like to see him play the rest of the season, meaning Kroooooooze can play more up forward.

How good did Big K look on the lead, next year he'll be taking contested marks up forward.

Saddington proved he still has no general or lower body strength or leap. Saddington is a good player on the attack but needs an opponent smaller than him.

Hampson played his best game for Carlton, finally showed a bit.

Wasn't he on Ebert all day? Ebert didn't have a cracker either they hardly got the ball inside 50.
He was picking up Westhoff at one stage. Got outpointed in a marking contest pretty badly, and then had the same thing happen against Brogan. One bump and he's out of the contest. He can't jump to punch either.

As someone said elsewhere, he's limited to small forwards who can't jump. We can do much better. I'd have Bannister in before him any day of the week.

Fair enough, didn't see those early clangers. Still a fan of Thornton, he's not big, never will be but I like him running the ball out of defence. Each to their own :thumbsu:

Thornton cost us 2 goals (both to White I think) in the third, one where he turned the ball over and one where he over-ran a simple gather. His opponent also kicked a goal. I reckon he was responsible for atleast a quarter of Port's score  Saddington had a much better game.

Considering how raw Hampson is to football itself, let alone AFL football, I thought he had a pretty good game :thumbsu:

So quick and got a terrific leap. He's an exciting project.

Did some goal practice during the warm-up one-on-one with one of the coaches and boy, doesn't he need it.
Might explain why we never see him near the goals I guess. And of course they are trying to teach him how to ruck in limited sessions and get a feel for AFL around the ground.

Luckily a certain other young ruckman is rather good near the goals :thumbsu:

I thought Hampson played a good game on the weekend, all things considered. Has only played a handful of senior games, still needs a few preseasons and is relatively new to the game. Got his hands on it and provided something. Definitely should keep his place in the side.

Was happy with Hampson. The most important part is that he nullifies a lot of ruck contests and allows Kreuzer to play forward. He is important for our dynamic. Kreuzer and Cloke can rotate between ruck and forward pocket but when one needs a rest, Hampson comes on. We don't lose that resting ruckman that our forward line so desperately needs.
