Interesting how many Labor voters put Greens second or third behind an independent. TBH, I put the Greens last behind ON, UAP, and then Lib candidate. Greens are too extreme for my liking, and I still blame Bob Brown and the Greens for what become the last decade of politics when they rejected the CPRS. It appears many young voters still in nappies at the time have revived the greens vote in 2022, mainly based on LNP inaction here. Good in one respect, i.e, Libs out, bad on the other, i.e, Greens have considerable power again.

Will be interesting to see how much the Greens hold the Albanese Government hostage on climate legislation, considering Labor will need them and Pocock to get anything through the Senate.

idea being to think towards what the final 2 will be. ALP in Goldie (for example) would be beyond stupid because we needed daniels to be second (because her preferences would skew libs if dumped)*

with so many 3/4 candidate races, it had to be eye on the prize. A green in Ryan, or an ALP in Higgins is better than a lib in both

Going by the poll big footy is far more left then the average Australian. Either that or the polls are all wrong and labour is going to smash it in.

Even in 2022 there'd be a good portion of older conservatives that do not access the Internet or engage on social platforms like these.

I am a firm believer of putting a good independent at #1, regardless of your political preferences

Independents who don’t have the backing of a party machine are reliant on the electoral funding they get from first-preference votes to fuel their campaign. We should encourage more good independent candidates (if only to hold the majors accountable) by directing our $1.50 their way wherever they are deserving.

By all means put your preferred major party at #2, but don’t funnel your money into their anonymous state coffers when it could be going directly to a committed local representative

Yeah I agree with this logic.

Just remember that they only get that $1.50 from you if they get at least 4% of the primary vote. But at least it won't go to a major party (if that's not what you want)

Liberal or Labor, I cannot understand people who support the incumbent in uber-safe seats. Do you like being completely ignored by both parties?

I get this too - trying to make your seat more marginal can only be a good thing, can't it?

But then there are times that a swing toward a safe incumbent can send a message too, a strong repudiation of a bad government. Also, if you really like a party then them having some safe seats is a good thing as they don't have to spread their campaigning so thin.

Then if you want to get really technical there is the booth vote counts and what trends you want to see there, if that matters in the grand scheme of things. I once voted for a safe incumbent but they were actually an 'outsider' in my particular booth - so I was kind of giving them some (meagre) support where they don't get much. Not that it matters, but then again, one vote matters little anyway.

their cadidates at least in vic were a real mixed bag, there were some good refugee advocates, poverty advocates etc, but they do as a group have links to SAlt and SAlt can generally * off

ON and UAP cannibalise each other, and have far less chance of getting much traction, particularly in my seat. The Greens have it. Like I said, they had disproportionate power in the Senate after the 2007 election with measly 5 seats and abused it based on ideology. There was some chance of progress in Australia and they throttled it and encouraged the rise of the right.

This myth has been repeated so many times, it's tiring.

The Greens blocked the CPRS. SO DID THE LIBERALS. Not only that, it cost Malcolm Turnbull his job as opposition leader and saw Tony Abbott installed. This notion that if only the Greens had agreed to the CPRS everything would have been hunky dorey is a complete myth. Abbott opposed it. He was elected as opposition leader on the basis of his opposition. In fact, it's arguable that had Labor managed to get the policy passed, Abbott might have actually won in 2010 because he would have had the ammunition.

As for the CPRS, almost every environmental group declared it to be woefully inadequate. Had the Greens endorsed it, they would have basically been ignoring the science and betraying the people that voted for them. Why would they endorse that?

As for Rudd... he described climate change as "the greatest moral, economic and social challenge of our time”. And yet, he came up with a half-arsed policy, couldn't get is passed and then baulked at calling a double dissolution. He was a coward with no convictions and it ultimately cost him his leadership and his self-respect.

So the two major parties screwed us over completely, purely for the sake of political opportunism and to further the careers of their respective leaders. The Greens, on the other hand, were the only party that stuck to their guns and insisted on policy that would actually achieve what needed to be done. Not only that, they managed to successfully get what they wanted. AND it was having a tangible impact on emissions before it was dismantled by Tony Abbott.

But apparently... everything is the Greens fault?

Whether you like their policies or not, as far as I can tell they are the only party in recent years that has acted with any semblance of integrity and honoured their commitments to their voters. And THAT is why their power is increasing. Unlike the Democrats who sold their soul over the GST and were consequently obliterated.

Placed Greens at #2 for pragmatic reasons - and because they aren't winning Petrie, anyway. Morally and ethically, I'd usually place ON below the LNP, but they're not winning Petrie, either. Liberal Democrats are a bunch of twats led by one of QLD's star twats (Campbell Newman), but hardly anyone was going to vote for them so I thought that placing them at #4 was safe enough.
