I heard that it isnt based on in-store sales, but rather sales to stores. is this correct? what would the charts be if it was based on instore sales?

do international charts work in the same way?

yes that's how the charts are compiled.

most are done the same way. it's easier, cheaper and more accurate than using store sales as there are far less distributors to stores than there are stores.

no idea what the charts would look like if based on in store sales. better i hope though

what i would really like to see is a chart based on what people are listening to...oh wait we have that :D
i just don't agree with what people listen to

Modern Rock Charts in America are done on Radio play alone I think. I think the Mainstream Rock Charts are the same.

the more we play your music the higher in the charts it goes so the more we play it in our chart shows and therefor it goes higher in the charts so we play it in the chart shows more...long story short the highest chart position is now 0.0000013

I remember hearing a story once about how a record company were buying thousands of their own CD's and just dumping them in order to keep their artists at the top of the charts and keep the positive cycle going. I seem to recall it had something to do with Elton John  but I really can't remember the details...

I thought the actual chart position was based on physical/digital sales but whether it is gold or platinum etc was based on the number of copies ordered by stores?
