Tbh I'd be happy for teams just to play everybody once, then the home/away teams are reversed the next season. Bring in a couple more teams and that brings it up to a 19 round season which is more than fine. I know it would never happen because the AFL is purely about the money and broadcast rights, but it would get rid of a lot of the dead rubber matches at the end of the season and stops it dragging out. No more clubs selling matches either; every home game is played at teams' actual home ground. Maybe have a few state of origin round-robins just to pad it out a bit. The whole who has the toughest/easiest draw thing we go through every year is just bloody tedious and makes the AFL look like a backwater league.

IMO the best situation for the Grand Final would be for the higher placed team to get the home game at their actual home ground but I know that's not super feasible because the AFL love to make the day into some second rate Super Bowl affair featuring some washed up imported act. No corporate seats either, they can GAGF, just the fans who support the actual teams. If the game is going to become truly national we need to lose the focus on the MCG being the "home of footy". Kids from the Gold Coast, or Western Sydney or Tassie should be able to dream of playing in the biggest game of the year in their own state.

Shorten games to 15min + time on each QTR.

34 home and away games a season spread over 25 weeks of footy. Will actually equal less game time with the shorter quarters (I mean my math is shit so I might have worked it out wrong)

Minimum 4 day break between games (shorter game time means less break needed).

Footy on 7 days a week for most of the year to cater for the extra 10games a club needs to play.

Can have 2 Thursday and Friday night games back to back without overlap.

Everyone plays each other twice... A true home and away. Each club has 17home matches to make money and greater membership flexibilities. Geelong can actually play clubs like Collingwood in Geelong.
Non-Victorian clubs will have more games at the MCG each season.
Clubs that sell games to smaller venues will be able to play bigger clubs at these games rather than just Non-Vic or small Vic clubs because they have more home games now to make money.

Obviously this isn't overly serious, but it's either 17games a season or 34. No other option is fully equitable or even close.

That might fix the fixture but would ruin football.

My other idea was a 26 game season with 9 double games. 1 team you would play as a double every year(although you could rotate that for the Victorian teams). And you would play the other 16 teams 3 times over 2 seasons.

First: in this order.
All venues must made be the same dimensions .
All venues must be the same capacity.
Then all teams play each other once at neutral venues.
The seating must be allocated 50/50.
Easy.

Once the s**t hole clubs go broke all will be sorted.

Two Divisions and relegation/promotion.

12 teams in top division playing the regular 22 Round home and away season.

Preferably 12 teams in 2nd division, but could get away with 8 teams or 10 teams.

Add in an FA Cup Style knockout comp which includes all teams as a pre-season tournament.

19. Tasmania
20. WA 3
21. Canberra
22. NT
23. Norwood
24. Southport
