If someone calls ya up do u simply say the boring/generic hello or hi or g'day.
For a while i used to simply say my phone number when some one rang our phone IE (555 - 89786) but now i've reverted to Good Ol Mr Burns from the Simpsons A hoy hoy as i reckon that is a cool way of answering the phone. Although it probably does sound eccentric, hey i'm an eccentric person.

Depends...

If I am just picking up the phone, to anyone, I'll go "G'day". If I know who is calling, I'll go "Dandenong Mental Institution, how may I assist you?".

When I call people, it depends on who I am calling.

Say for instance it's my boss at Hawthorn I'll say "Yeah G'day Amanda it's Brett..." If it is a mate, I'll go "Yeah g'day! Is ... there thanks?"

The best intro I have got off a phone call is when i called Mark Cutler at Triple M.

"Is this the world famous Brett Collett who inspired MJ to make his NBA comeback, who caused the boardroom spill at Melbourne, who is the reason why Geelong is so crap and who is the greatest sports journo on earth?"

I just pissed myself laughing...

I just say hello, but I love playing with telemarketers. It's fun to string them along, and tell them your really interested in their product. Then when it comes to the hard sell saying sorry not interested :) Iv'e been practicing my accents as well, and soon plan to test it out on an unsuspecting telemarketer. I'm going to be Sven from Sweden and pretend I don't understand what they are talking about. Should be a laugh.

When someone calls at home and i dont know who it is I'll just say hello, but if someone calls me on my mobile and i know who it is than i'll say something different.
Also when i call some of my friends if they pick up i'll say something stupid to them and hope they realise its me and not hang up! :D

The way I answer the phone at work is totally different than from home naturally, people don't recognise my business voice & are totally stunned, at work it is very polite your name, company etc. at home it is how ya going, or if you are someone I don't want to talk to I just don't answer, thank goodness for calling number display.:D Oh & if you are one of those clever dicks who bars your number being displayed, I just don't answer.

I NEVER answer my mobile if it comes up "private number". What do they have to hide?

If it's at my home phone or a number I don't know, I usually say "Hello" but if it's a friend calling on my mobile I usually play with their mind by pretending to be every member of my family, passing the phone onto me or putting on some oriental accent.
