Many had to join otherwise they and their families would of been murdered.

not all were monsters. Some (probably most) are just people in horrible circumstances who did horrible things because they felt their only alternative was their own death.

You could say the same about a lot of organised groups. Isis, IRA, Al Qaeda, etc

If you're a victim of such groups, you won't see them as 'family guys, just looking out for their loved ones.'
