Having seen them all now, properly in fair dinkum games I feel the most professional and best coverage of a game was Channel 10.

The didnt piss fart around with bull$hit camera angles, their main camera seemed to be the right height, (9's is too high at the MCG), the commentators werent ego-maniacs and I think their graphics are on par with 9.

With watching 9, you get the impression it is all about the network.

With ten, it was all about the footy.

Fox is a little behind, looks a bit cheaper, but thats what we expected, didnt we?

Very dissapointed with 9 I must say.

I went to the Collingwood v Richmond game, and by the time I got home, the game had finished on tv, so I am not sure how good the channel 9 coverage is yet.

I don't have Fox, so I can't comment either.

I was very impressed with the channel 10 coverage last night. I thought that channel 10 would struggle at the start of the year, but they were great last night. Well I thought they were anyway.

I started to get very irritated with Fox's coverage last night. It's like coverage from the early 80's. All you get is the score, and stats at the end of the quarter.

During the game it's nice to be able to see some sort of clock - either countdown or elapsed. Fox provides us with neither, so we have a rather silly situation where the viewer actually has access to LESS information than those at the ground.

It's not as though the clocks aren't available. During the Port v Roos clash last night the commentators constantly told us how much time was left (as though embarrassed that the clocks weren't available as a graphic), beyond even the arbitrary 5 minutes from the end of the quarter.

Very annoying.

On the other hand, Nine goes right to the other end of the spectrum, bombarding the viewer with stats. It's a bit overwhelming, but preferable to Fox's position.

Nothing wrong with Ten's coverage, it looks good and the commentary's been sound.

Jury's still out on the lot of them. Give them a few rounds to sort themselves out. Hopefully Fox's problems are just teething ones.

This year Ten & Nine are broadcasting in widescreen format using digital. Ten's widescreen for AFL is sensational!!!!!!!! Of course you need a widescreen set and a digital receiver to view it. AFL is a natural for widescreen as it broadens the field of vision. Well worth a look if you can get it. This is all heading towards high definition in the next few years.

Nine is also broadcasting in widescreen but no where near as good as Ten.

Fox over cable is still in the dark ages with a poor picture and the standard 12x9 aspect viewing ratio (widescreen is 16x9).

Go TEN!!!

I can only really echo what most people have said here- Ten's coverage has been excellent so far, Channel Nine's has been fairly average, and for the cost of pay TV, I've been very very disappointed indeed with Fox's '1984' style coverage.

Footy is without a doubt the best looking sport in 16x9. Once thats out, it could certainly pick up some support, because it looks so bloody good.

I also agree that some sort of time clock is required - either counting up as at the ground or down like in the past.
