Mainly in a thankyou gesture to other vehicle users on the road when they let you in, wait behind a parked car so you can go through etc etc.

I ask because I got a "pinky" today .. I basically waited behind a parked car and let them thru and this guy stuck up his pinky, thought it was odd.

I do the index finger wave to thank anyone nice enough to receive it on the road. If there is any option up there that you don't do please feel free to share :)

Two finger wave off the steering wheel if they are coming towards you (mainly on a one-lane bridge near my place).

Other than that always the open palm to make sure the person can see I'm saying thanks.

Pisses me right off when you are nice to someone in traffic and they don't thank you. Given the examples above - maybe they did but I just didn't see.......

Never seen a 'pinky' wave. That IS odd......

I get out of the car and shake their hand.

Pfft that's nothing. I write down their licence plate, get my police friends to track down the name and address of the owner, buy them a present then personally go to their house and give them their present.

Or in the cases I'm too lazy open palm.

Four fingers on right hand raised off the steering wheel, combined with a head nod.

Sometimes I'll even mouth the words "thank you", especially if they let me in front of them when they didn't really have to (ie pissing of road rage bogans behind them).

this was talked about yesterday on hamish and andy

They are only about 15 years behind Seinfeld (I am sure there was a reference to this topic in the Puerto Rican Day episode).

"This guys giving me the stare-ahead!"

"The stare-ahead, I hate that, I use it all the time"

:D

:D :thumbsu:

The best show ever. :thumbsu:

I tried looking for the clip on youtube, but to no avail, so I will post some memorable moments from the same episode.

I selected open pal wave, but shouldn't scrolled down to see what context the wave was in...

So the four finger wave for me.

It's a tad annoying when you've let a car go through and then they don't wave, usually expect it these days.

open palm wave. you want to be sure they can see your wave, and the car's are basically at a halt/slowed pace, so i don't see the reason not to wave

also unless i'm mistaken, doesn't flashing the headlights means that there are speed cameras up ahead, that you wish to warn upcoming drivers about. if not then i've been doing something stupid

I think the headlight flash may be a good substitute at night when visibility is poor. But I also use the headlight flash to tell them they can go through/ahead.

Yep it does but I'm talking about when you're on a sidestreet and people flash their headlights to say thanks :)

4-fingered wave for me. It must still have the thumb attached to the steering wheel while the remaining fingers become erect and a half smile to acknowledge their goodwill.
