Sparingly & never 4 games in succession....Also, most times if the game is done & dusted by 3/4 time would like to see him subbed, as it is usually in the 4th quarter when he does his hamstring!

Much like Lake, he needs to be 'managed' in accordance with the peculiarities & nature of his issues!....Save him for the big one's whilst getting more games into our kids during the easier rounds against the likes of Melb, St. Kilda, GWS, Foots et al....

Your question (O/P) was purely tactical so far as position is concerned & not specific to the nature of his hamstring management issues; Which I assumed to be an underlying motivation behind your post!

I'm fairly sure he did both his hamstrings in the 3rd quarter this year.....coincidence that it was done after the break when he had cooled down. So does that rule out fatigue ?

GC game was madness....it was freezing cold that day. I was extremely nervous about his hammy's....and what do you know it popped.

True....If it's not in the 4th quarter then it typically occurs late in the third & most often in his 4th game in a row....As pointed out by The BIG X , Gold Member, TazHawk15 & others; there are other factors which need to be weighed when playing him apart from the weather: These include successive 6 day breaks, the surface of the venue (Etihad's Hardness for example) or just the opposition on the day.... However, the central factor is the management of his hammy's & their propensity for failure during overload/Fatigue; due to the nature of the way Cyril plays & given his higher than normal density of fast twitch muscle fibres!

After watching his highlights from this year I can't believe there was ever any question over whether or not he should've played in the GF.

Made opposition look slow and stupid. He's magic. His early season form was possibly his career best. Hate hamstring and ACL injuries so much.

He pretty much always does his hamstring in the same movement at the end of a sprint when he bends down low and lunges forward. He needs to take it out of his game and play within himself a bit more. Would still love to see him pushed through half back. If he gets on the end of more handball receives he wont need to be lunging.

Prescribe 'Goats Blood Injections' to cure his hamstrings:), managing his hamstrings will be the biggest hurdle, is it his action at the end of a sprint?, is it the work load? he seems to do the hammi towards the 3rd and 4th qrts.

Love watching Rioli play, like Roger Rogerson posted, Half-Back-flank is not a bad idea.

Cyril Rioli is the most explosive and best player in tight and tough situations I have ever seen ever. He is cat like, and makes all opposition look shit. We just have to accept that he will always be injured throughout the season, and medical management will be a priority.

Forward pressure and the odd stint in the middle (very odd stint) is all that is required of him. Easily our most important player to be selected first every week.

You cannot buy that pressure and the fear he instills in the opposition. The magic he produces with ball in hand whilst brilliant is purely secondary to his pure value.
