In 2000, Essendon lost in Round 21 by 5 points after going in with a long winning streak.
In 2007, Geelong lost in Round 21 by 5 points after going in with a long winning streak.

In 2000, Essendon finished 1st, played the Kangaroos who finished 4th in the first final and won by in excess of 100 points.
In 2007, Geelong finished 1st, played the Kangaroos who finished 4th in the first final and won by in excess of 100 points.

In 2000, the Kangaroos played Hawthorn in the second week of the finals and won, with a 130 point plus turnaround in margin from the previous week.
