Reckon Balmey’s got pretty strong protective instincts when it comes to lookin after the Tiger Boys.

We could always ask Carl Ditterich if he’d agree.
Lol, of all the guys. Deitreitch himself was a ******* dirty dog sniper.

Yep, he was a shocker
Incredible bad luck Balmey lost his footing and fell on him
The grounds were very uneven back then.

No mention of Miller interestingly, who while not a natural ruckman, could easily support Nank while holding down another key role someday. Incredibly early days, but I do see a little bit of Balmey about him.
Has he played ruck since he’s been at the club? Thought he was a KPD type

How bloody stupid is Collingwood getting rid of him LOL

Thanks for the final piece to our 2017 flag morons

One of my favourite moments during the Grand Final was him laughing at Dimma when they all knew we were going to win and Dimma still didn't want to jinx it
Just sat at the back of the coaches box and laughed. Was the only one to make the call that we'd won it early.

My take from that.

Soldo is ready to go. But isn't in Nanks class.
CCJ is who we want out there, but he needs more time.

We are seriously thinking of playing that tall mobile guy as back up if need be. Balta is first cab off the rank, with Chol if need be.

So we are genuinely thinking that maybe a second ruck will happen. But hope we can get by with just Nank.
Teams that have a decent Ruck combo and successfully exploited us late last year (Melbourne, Collingwood & West Coast), I reckon those games we will bring in these guys like CCJ, Balta etc just to be a presence & big game experience on the field. Against all other teams we will just do what we have been doing.

Saw him ruck at VFL - but he's in a bit of a line up. Often behind Soldo, CCJ and Cholly. Only had 6 recorded Hit Outs in 2018, but that doesn't mean much as I wouldn't expect him to win many yet, but is a competitive beast.

Step 1 : Break his jaw and make sure he is knocked out

Step 2 : Make sure to accidentally fall knee's first onto his back ensuring atleast 4 broken ribs

Step 3 : Walk away like it was totally unavoidable

Hopefully Nanks hard hitting instincts rub off on our other talls and they all develop a really HARD edge. Unfortunately it's been missing from a number of our talls in the past. I can see Balta going down that path. Has anyone seen our other talls heading down that path? Not in an illegal sniper kind of way but just legitimately using their height & weight to advantage like Nank?

Soldo is a big unit and could easily, but can't say I've seen him influence too much like that. Perhaps some regular VFL watchers could comment more.

I recall Ivan Maric giving Nank a fair sort out at the Maroochy Camp when Nank first arrived - they did massive one on one drills and Ivan made life tough for Nank then. I think it set Nank up very well.

Only watched a handful of VFL matches but I remember Soldo throwing his weight around a bit when tackling small guys. Not Mumford levels of dirtiness either

Disagree. We changed the moment Ivan walked through the door.

Could have kept his feet. Could have jumped over him. Could have jumped to the right. Could have jumped to the left.

Nup, I've gunna drive my knees into the back of his neck.

Would love to know how many weeks he got

Balmey thinks his Ditterich hit was 1978 (from Open Mike interview with Mike Sheahan).

According to AFL Tables, that match was played in Round 3 at MCG, and it was a draw (exactly the same result as occurred in 1980 between these to teams, also in Round 3).

After that 1978 game, Balmey played the following week (against Geelong). In other words, he was not suspended!
