How good is Fyfe??

In relation to Fyfe going #20 in the draft, wasn't he playing 4th's in school footy as a 16 year old?

I'd say that would have a little to do with where he went if that's the case.

Yes.

Think it was more a case of recruiters, bar Smart not knowing whether he could play any other role than that of a forward.

Phil was right, Freo have a young James Hird on there hands.

Is Nat Fyfe playing at a James Hird Level?

Racking up big numbers through the middle, winning alot of contested ball, creating scoring opportunities where others cant and reeling in grabs with some of the stongest hands in the competition.

Hird took a while to reach his peak, Fyfe's not even there and he's playing some special football.

Would it be fair to say Nat Fyfe, this season, is playing at a James Hird level?

Re: Is Nat Fyfe playing at a James Hird Level?

I think he's actually around that level at the moment, which makes it even more scary to think what he'll be capable of when he fills out.

Re: Is Nat Fyfe playing at a James Hird Level?

To even suggest that is blasphemy. Hird's greatness wasn't in the number of disposals he got or the amount of marks he took, it was that in 5 minutes he could completely turn a game on its head and inspire his team to lift to a whole other level. Fyfe is nowhere near that. Sure, he may be one day. But for now he continues to look up to the great man.

I may be slightly biased though...

Re: Is Nat Fyfe playing at a James Hird Level?

Heard was Essendons list from 91.

Fyfe is in his second year.
oh godd

I am one of the biggest Fyfe lovers going around and I do see the Hird comparison, but he's not at Hird's level yet... I think he will reach it though. The question is whether he can sustain it.

Re: Is Nat Fyfe playing at a James Hird Level?

Hird took a while to get his peak because he was injured. In his first game, he went for a ball that no first gamer or any experience player should try to get.........but he still tried.

Got a massive head injury thanks to that and was out 1 year I think. Then he came back got 28 touches and 11 marks.

LOL at the peak BS.

Re: Is Nat Fyfe playing at a James Hird Level?

Do u mean a hird level in his very early years? Surely not comparing him at his peak? Hirdy could probably still strut his stuff as captain coach if he wanted

James HIRD debuted in 1992, began a run of 3 successive best and fairests two years later coupled with successive club leading goalkicker awards and a Brownlow in 1996.

Saying Jimmy took a while to reach his peak is absolutely ridiculous.

No, it wouldn't be fair. To use Hird and Fyfe in the same sentence is ridiculous, at best. Just because he has played some good and a few great games this year doesn't automatically mean he is at that level.

Re: Is Nat Fyfe playing at a James Hird Level?

Do you think you might've gone just a little early on this call GG?

Not at all. It's asking a question.

I havent said Nat Fyfe is a James Hird clone or better, just pondering whether he is playing at the great mans level.

There playing styles are uncanny though.

Just goes to show the level with which the OPs post was researched. He just made it up.

For an Essendon man, you need to read up on your clubs history.

Hird was on Essendons list from 91, at the end of that season, he was to be delisted.

Only Sheedy saved him.

I said he debuted in 1992. Who cares when he was drafted? I never disputed he was on the list in 1991.

And what does him nearly being delisted have to do with when he reached his peak? You're the one making the staggeringly ignorant claim that he "took a while to reach his peak"

Re: Is Nat Fyfe playing at a James Hird Level?

dockers supporters lol

first stephen hill is new peter matera and now nat fyfe is the new james hird.

they sure do fail to achieve much with all these supposed great players they have.
