How good is Jobe Watson?

Hard not to be impressed.

Weird body type. Every now and then a player comes along who just seems to have "it". Dunno what "it" is, but Watson seems to have it. I got a real good feeling about him. Best feeling since Lloyd. I know its early, but sometimes you can just tell.

His old man had "it" too. The boy was very impressive.

There wasn't a lot to get excited about yesterday but Jobe Watson was an exception. Gee he's big for a kid, yep he has his old mans magic all right.

Jobe was great, but i was also encouraged by Layc ock, McPhee & Welsh, thought they played pretty well also, their disposal was terrible, so if they work on that, things are looking good.

Was not impressed at all with Welsh, thought he got a bath from Harding.....hopefully he just had a bad day and doesnt suffer the second year blues.

However Jobe has got me excited as does Lay****....Although Lay**** was soundly beaten by Porter, I have a feeling he may overtake Hille as our No. 1 ruckman by the year end. Was pretty impressive for an 18 year old first gamer!

Super impressed with Jobe - if that's an indication of how'll he'll handle seniors this year I'll expect him to play most games.

On Welsh though - I thought he was pretty average - beaten hands down on the day but he'll bounce back.

McPhee showed good signs but also stuffed it up a few times. I liked his intensity though - that was a good sign.

Cupido stank - looked like a show pony to me - didn't read the ball well at all and hardly got a touch. Interesting to read Sheedy saying that Jobe would be ahead of Cupido in terms of getting a game at this early stage.

Lay**** showed good signs but yeah he did get beaten - he moves really well for a big fella, much better than Hille who just lumbers really. I too reckon he might be No. 1 by years end, if not he'll most likely be in top 2.

I thought McGrath showed some good signs too - got a lot of the ball early and ran with it well but didn't see him much after that.

Reynolds was quiet but I'm not giving up on him yet - we need his pace in the midfield so hopefully he can get his game together asap.

On Cupido - from the looks of things, dont expect too many "hard ball gets' from him.

Hmm, did we lose Caracella for, um, another Caracella?

Hopefully he is as damaging on the not so greasy days.

Watson will be a star. I hope he gets out of the habit of bouncing the ball on his first couple of steps when taking the ball away from a pack.

Layco ck didn't impress me at all. I didn't expect him to win the ruck duels, but he wasn't even competetive. Coughed it up a couple of times, but that is to be expected at his age.

Cupido looked good here and there, but i am hoping he can become a ball magnet midfielder like McLeod, rather than a 'flashy' HFF.

McPhee was good. Moves well.

I liked the look of Ben Haynes. I'd be happy to elevate him at season's end for a Richards/Davies/Bannister/Henneman.

Welsh needs to learn from his effort. He was pathetic.

No phuckin idea I'm afraid.. (sob)

Really, really missing the footy over here in London. With the team turnover that's happened in recent times its likely that I'll be wondering who's playing for us next time I get to the G.

That said, its pretty funny the websoftware refusing poor old Laydick from having his name even used!

Have we got any of that legendary depth left for a bad injury year guys? And what about pace in the midfield (sorry - watching too many Arsenal games) er um in the centre of the Park. Can we live with quick, skilled teams in that area?

Cheers
Chris

Hey Dutch, long time no talk.

Depth looks to be a thing of the past, though IMO it was always fairly illusionary.

Pace in the midfield largely depends on a few key players not getting hurt.

Yep - suspected as much Dave - this is what worries me - not stressed about backs (esp with Solomon fit) or the forwards - but until we can go with the lightning quick midfield combinations -particularly brisbane's - I'm not counting my chickens...

Any of the new kids really quick, skilled and big enough to take hits? Thinking more of M.Long here rather than M.Fraser mould...

Where's Dan got to Dave? Good to see Smokin, Topdon, Wally, yourself and few others still on board.

Not sure Dutch. Rioli & Mercs are being touted by Sheedy to fill the void left by the trio departed though they don't strike me as being super quick even if Rioli is half the man he used to be.

Dan? He's too busy lobbying the AFL to change the many problems the game has, such as displaying the goals and behinds on the scoreboard instead of just the total score, to mix with the hoi poloi. In his spare time he's tring to convince the FA that 3 points for a win and the away goals rules are a waste of time and reinventing mathematics.

I'm particularly fond of the away goal rules for the bitterness in defeat they cause - far worse than penalties or 1 point Prelimary Final losses...

See if you can convince him to work on the inactive player only theoretically offside within the offside rule too...

Has Rioli laid off the pies? Haven't seen him since he looked like Rene Kink in his latter Windy Hill days (remember 1983?)

Oh Dutchman ... you should see that man Rioli now! He is half the man he used to be!!!!
