This is literally the stupidest argument and AFL fans make it all the time.

NFL has extra time, let's bring it in.

NBA has scoring zones, let's bring it in.

Conferences work in American sports, let's bring it in.

Soccer has a home and away fixture v each side so everyone plays everyone twice, we better do it!

MMA is ******* intense, let's bring in weight divisions, after all another sport does it.

It's not an argument.
Ah yep, there is so much the NFL can give us. It needs to be introduced ASAP. We will introduce an offensive and defensive team. All players will need to leave the field after a turnover and change teams. Play will be reduced to 10 minutes, but will be spread out over 4 hours so as not to over stimulate the fans. After a mark is taken, all players will form a huddle and work out their next play. The clock will continue to tick while nothing is happening. At the start of each play one player will need to bend over in front of another player and pass the ball to him between his legs. The full forward will become a designated kicker who will only come on when the ball is in the attacking 50. Only the full forward will be able to kick a goal. As some players are not very good as kicking, they will no longer be required to kick the ball, or even touch the ball for that matter. They will now only need to tackle. If the ball comes near them, they should leave the ball for someone else who has skills in handling the ball. I'll have a chat to someone at the AFL, hopefully we can get these changes made for next season. :D

Ten minutes extra footy with intensity might have a knock-on to the next week as well. Particularly if a team has a six day break or travelling interstate.

A team could lose a draw and then also lose the next week because of the effort expended the previous week. Not really fair.

Keep the draw.
Exactly.

My god, what a finish. A famous moment, all because the draw was not a thing. I reckon they should remove the draw in home and away and bring in extended time like that. Incredible game, great for footy.
I agree with you. But the AFL will never do it because there is not enough leeway in between games and news bulletins etc to allow for an potential extra 20 minutes (6 minute break, two five minute quarters and a minute or so for the mini half time).

Nick Reiwoldt is on board for ET in H&A.

I bet the majority of players would be...and coaches too most likely.

So, it's the 'Sacred Draw' we are protecting here?..

Last night was great but it was a final.

Keep the draw, wouldn't want my teams player injured in extra time.
Each team should play an equal amount of game time each week in the home and away season.

The rule book states that if the scores are level after extra time, the siren doesn't blow until someone hits the lead. So here's my question: Why didn't they just not blow the siren until someone hit the lead in the game proper, and avoid the extra time? The AFL has me questioning my own sanity so damn often, I bet I'll end up in therapy. Yes, get rid of the draw during the season. At least one supporter group should leave the game happy. What's the point of everyone leaving nonplussed?

I prefer penalty shootouts.
Would be an interesting to watch in the Aussie Rules arena actually.

Go 40m out directly in front. Total score after 5 shots from each teams selected 5 win, 1 by 1 after that if it's still a draw.

Am I the only one who finds American football very boring to watch? There is so much dead time in that game.

Not sure why we feel the need to emulate the NFL to be honest.

Need I elaborate really? How good is a game of NFL when it goes to extra time? So insanely intense, like almost nothing that Aussie Rules can produce.
Tonights game was like those games.
I'm the opposite actually. I often find OT in the NFL to be disappointing. The games 4 qtrs is more exciting than the OT imo.

When its two 4-10 teams its boring af and most fans/broadcasters would prefer a draw so they can just go home.

It's the fact this was a knock-out final which really made the drama. Extra time between 14th and 12th in Round 17 is not going to be like this.

I agree. The 2 previous extra time finals ended in 3-4 goals wins. While they were good games they are hardly memorable.

This time it ended in a great finish

The 2nd best finish to a game this year was McGovern kicking a goal after the siren to draw
