I'm not sure if the logistics of bringing an England team out for Sheffield Shield (I refuse to call it by it's sponsors name ), but I think it may be viable to get a kiwi team involved. It would help the kiwis become stronger cricketers - which may help them considering they can't play rugby anymore

Actually there have in the past been several proposals to have the entire New Zealnd National Team play in the Sheffield Shield.

The last such suggestion was just before the very first tour of NZ by the Australian Test Team in 1974.

It was very seriously considered at the time but the idea was dropped shortly after the tour because NZ were surprisingly competitive against the Aussies (they won 1 test) and it was felt that if they were good enough to take a test off the Aussies, then they would unfairly dominate the Australian State teams in the Sheffield Shield.

Which was wrong of course, NZ Cricket was very strong in the 70's and early 80's, unusually strong in fact.

Your average Kiwi national team is a good match for a team like New South Wales or Western Australia, but is mostly out-classed at Test Level.

So it would have been great for the development of the game in general in New Zealnd if the national team was allowed to play in the Sheffield Shield.

All our young players are coming over to train at the academy in Adelaide under Marshy & they'll be playing their Aussie equivalents-don't know if they'll face any State sides but they're bound to get their arses kicked........oh to be so confident in the finest young cricketers in the country.

New Zealand had a team in the domestic one-day competition for the first few years (in the early 1970s). Not sure why this practice was stopped.
