Well it seems to depend on whether your team's winning or not don't it? But the pre-season compis a a reasonable indicator of how your team is going to go. From 1991 to 2000, the winner of the Pre season comp has finished 1,2 or 3 half the time and has played in finals finishing 6 or better 7 times. Just three times have teams had a poor "real" season by comparison, Hawthorn being the last. So while you can argue all you like about it being meaningless (and it earns you exactly zip premiership points) I'd rather be winning, thanks.

Winning is a far better habit than losing.
We at Port Adelaide understand this, it is our culture.

Put it this way:

The Anset Cup is one of three team trophys (1.Ansett Cup, 2.McClelland trophy for top spot, 3. September premiership) that can be won each year.

If you win it, is is another premiership and another trophy to add to the trophy cabinet to add to the history of your football club. Essetially, that is what we play football for. To win, and accumulate as many premierships as you can. It has no impact on the premeirship season, as plenty of teams have won both.

I'd love to win it for a record equalling 7th time. Sadly, we can't do it this year.

I could not care less about it. I was not in the slightest bit concerned about yesterday's result. I only worry about injuries.

An argument could be made that the Ansett Cup isn't much more than a series of glorified practice matches. However, it is a pretty good bellweather to pick the teams on the rise and the teams likely to challenge for the premiership (Adelaide being the exception to this rule). I don't think anyone would seriously rate it as an equivalent to the "day" premiership but it provides a boost to the teams that win it (the effect it has had on St Kilda {who went on to being in the GF a year later}, Essendon and North Melbourne is borne out in their subsequent performances). And despite what Dan24 would have you believe it is the early formguide for the premiership.

Hang on a sec!

I agree with you. Plenty of teams have done the "double" and the team that wins the Ansett Cuo usually does very well in the premiership season. I have stated this MANY times.

So, what the hell do you mean in your above comment directed at me?

Despite what Dan24 would have you believe?????? What the f*ck do you mean by that? Especially with regards to this topic.

My first post on this topic centred on me saying how the Ansett Cup is great to win, because it adds to the history of your club, and it is another premiership to add to the trophy cabinet.

So, what the hell do you mean by your comment????????????????????
