Last night Fyfe seemed to lightly clip Yeo over the head with his elbow guard which left Yeo on the ground for a minute.

Ordinary this high contact would not hurt anyone, yet the hard bracing inside Fyfe's guard had a pretty big impact on Yeo.

Fyfe has been quoted as saying he doesnt need the elbow guard, but just wears it no due to superstition, and so his grandma can spot him.

For a guy who has history of elbowing people in the head, why does the AFL continue to allow this?

I didn’t realise he didn’t actually need it. That’s interesting. If he wants his grandma to be able to spot him, couldn’t he brightly coloured shoes instead? Besides, he kind of already stands out with that hair.

I guess it depends on what it's made of. If it has a hard shell inside I'd say no but it is probably just gel or soft padding. Probably softer that an elbow.
Also, he seemed to clip Yeo with the inside of the elbow m forearm where there wouldn't be any padding.
Regarding 'not needing it', I would take that with a pinch of salt. Players regularly downplay injuries so they don't get targeted. He certainly looked like he was in some discomfort after a solid impact to that arm last night.

Doesn't seem anymore dangerous than a helmet.

The thing about blokes being groggy after a knock is that wrong angle wrong time... plays a major role

One bloke cops a brutal knock they can brush off, another has the same knock and spends 6 weeks trying to avoid headaches.

Concussion and player outcome is really a poor measure of actual force and impact

Just wait until he runs out looking like this

It looks like a foam guard to me, which means it'll cause less damage that a bare arm. Nothing wrong with him wearing it.
