With the current draft system teams are premiership contenders for a while and then suddenly lose all their key players and slip to the bottom.

How long do you believe the sydney swans have left before this happens to them?

Not very long. It's not as easy to come up a third time after playing off in two consecutive Grand Finals. I've penciled them outside the top eight this year, but they still have the ability to be competitive, as long as they stick to the disciplines during the season.

We will have a decent couple of years still. Once we lose Hall and Kirk then we will slide but interstate clubs only take a couple of years to rebuild, whereas it takes Melbourne clubs about 8 years to rebuild and even then they are still pretenders.

Fremantle have been up, down and back up again and the whole time Carlton have been on the bottom.

not making excuses we've been down there for so long cause we lost our draft picks which set us back a couple of years( we desereved it though )

How long does Hall have left on his contract?

Even still, their core players have atleast a few more years. Leo Barry, Adam Goodes, Kennelly, O'Keefe. I also rate Paul Roos as the best coach in the game.

I'll say 2-4 years. When that time does come, I hope Roos stays around to rebuild them again.

Sydney are gone. Their days are numbered because the AFL no longer cares to rig the whole thing in order for them to make a GF.

Bottom half this year.
Funny coming from a Carlton supporter....proven cheats!!

Anyways, I give us maybe 1-3 years tops before we start to rebuild. We don't tend to fall too far out of the top 8...bottoming out between positions 10-12 before making our way back up the ladder

And there is no reason why a team has to fall down the ladder just because they have been at the top for a while.

For example West Coast have been at the top for a while and they have a better group of youngsters than Essendon.

Well we have injuries atm. From the 2006 GF team Ablett, LRT and Schneider are all likely to miss round 1 and Tadhg injured himself on the weekend aswell, but not sure of the extent of it yet.

Thats not injuries of note, when will your luck with long term injuries, which all clubs have to key players except you, stop. If you weer to loose any 2 of Hall, Kirk or Goodes for the season you would be middle of the road..

Sydney have 1-3 years (2007 included) before they start to fade IMO.

Will be top 4 again this year, anyone who writes them off is a fool.
i agree with this, although grundy seems ok, but wont be as potent as hall/micky

Yes, but we've got more injuries atm then we've had for a while. So that counts for something.

Kelly, Dunkley, Locket, Schwass, Cresswell, Ball, Maxfield, Schauble, Nicks have all left the Swans in the last 4 years and it hasn't really phased them.

Can't see Hall, Kirk and Barry doing much damage when they retire if the likes of Kelly and Locket didn't.

Is that why our youngsters beat their youngsters by 10 goals at their home ground?

I dont think it matters how much longer theyve got, theyve achieved the ultimate success and played off in the last 2 GF's, goal has been achieved...

The village idiot speaks.

Sydney will be up there for a while, definitely next tow years and if Hall, Goods, O'Loughlan, Kirk etc. keep fit and in form, they will stay up for three.

Past that it's a stretch though.
