I used to barrack for the bombers growing up until about 6 months before I moved to Geelong (in 2002) I started barracking for the cats... there's something about this place :)

Now I hate Essendon with a passion! I've watched these kids grow into men the past 5-7 years, they're better than the Brisbane Lineup (with the exception of Voss - oh what a star!)

stuff a threepeat a foursome is heading this way (C.o.c.k.y arn't I?)

we are allowed to be as cocky as we like! A record grand final demolishing says that!!

Brisbane may have won a 3-peat but they NEVER did it in such style as we did on saturday......

*still waiting for this feeling to sink in*

see, youre the lucky one, lucky for you you didnt have to go through the torment of all those GF defeats...which to be honest, was mentally demoralising.

looks like you striked the iron while its hot!!
Yeah... The 2005 loss to Sydney was horrible though, I cried my eyes out. I don't even want to think about a GF loss.

Since '85. Moved to OZ in 82, so took a while to discover this great game (plus I was still pretty young). Went to my first game to have a look at Jacko, but some bloke wearing #5 caught the eye.

Still look at the photos of the boys with the cup and it doesn't seem real, but after four losses it tastes pretty bloody special!

Since circa 1977-78. My nan (RIP) was a huuuuuge Geelong supporter and she got me on board around then when I was about 4-5 years old. 30 odd years. Worth the wait but don't want to have to wait another 44 years for our next one.

Good thread.
My Mum went for Geelong so when I was born I automatically went for Geelong, lucky I didn't follow my Dads lead and barrack for Carlton.
So my whole life, 13 years (14 in two weeks!)
No idea how old I was here...

For as long as i can remember... kind of persuaded by my older brother when i was a kid (went something like... he asked me which team i liked... i thought abt it & said hmmmmm dont really know but i dont mind the kangaroos... he said if u dont go for the cats i'll punch ur head in) so i was cats from that point on must have been around '75..

remember the '80 & '81 Pre finals clearly & vaguely one other short finals campaign late 70s ?? Must have finished 4th or 5th.. will look up which year it was later..

So yeah all the losing Grand Finals... just missing the finals '87 the horror of '91 & '97.. but Saturday just wiped away all those disappointments....

The sweetest victory of all...... shame i couldnt be at the G but in a way it was good to be home with nobody listening except my gf... carried on a treat & really enjoyed the win :thumbsu:

26 years.......at the ripe old age of 10 tears old !! In short our late step father came into our lives then who in fact played 40 games for the cats from 61 til 63.

Unfortunately he missed the 63 flag with a knee injury as a 17 year old but was & still highly regarded by those that played with him.
The GF weekend wen't from better to unfknblvble when a mate rang me sat morning to say he had a spare tkt to the channel 9 breakfast at crown !!
I'll never forget not only the yr the cats have had but the past two weeks that i've been able to see them.....this is truely UNFORGETABLE !!!

Since about 77. Unfortunately, being born into a Richmond family I don't think there's a picture of me under the age of about 5 not in a Richmond jumper! Back in those days, we only had ABC and were lucky to see much VFL, so my team were the locals. We used to be the 'Mudlarks', with Essendon/Richmond jumper with a white sash but the jumpers were too dear to get custom made. The club had the choice between Geelong & Footscray colours, went with the cats so in a roundabout kind of way that's why I chose Geelong.

Cool story, Hansel.

My brother & I celebrated the win together... he's been waiting even longer & can remember the '67 loss... but not the '63 win

very very sweet but also very surreal... just have to keep watching the replay until it finally sinks in

Thanks and yes, yes they did!

Here's me in about 1998 or '99.
(My favourite photo so I'm going to post it. :p)

I still have that guernsey, it has #7 on the back, is signed by Ben Graham, John Barnes and some other players and doesn't fit me anymore.

Somewhere I have a photo of me all decked out in Cats gear when I was about 5, my brother was teaching me how to kick, so I started to kick left foot (to be like Ben Graham) so even though I'm right handed with everything, I'm a better kick with my left foot. :p

Family has always supported Geelong, but parents never went to games, been a Cats supporter since October 8 1981 :) probably got into it more when my older brother started going. Luckily for me as a family we used to go on holidays during September. I never saw Geelong lose thos premierships, but listened on the radio. So the first premiership I saw Geelong play in I got tickets to and got to see a win. Doesn't get any better than this.
