With the big man back this weekend fit and firing, how do many goals do you think he will kick on Waite.

Whilst Waite's performences recently has been impressive certainly better than his dissapointing season last year he is yet to play on a quality opponent. Watching him play last Saturday he seems to pre occupied with his attempts not to place his hands on his opponenets back. This could serve to be a problem for him him this weekend as clearly Brown will just be able to back into him.

Brown on the other hand will be desperate to get out on the park not having played footy for so long. Sure will be exciting seeing him out there.

Think Brown will be lacking match fitness so I'll put him down to 4 goals, 2 from Waite putting his hands on his back and 2 from set shots.

So Scott Lucas and Buddy Franklin aren't quality opponents:confused: ?

Just in case we have observers of the game saying that the irishmen Sentanna will take him this article came out the other day.

"DEFENDER Jarrad Waite is more than aware what a pumped-up Jonathan Brown can do on the footy field.

Brown appears set to play his first game of the year for the Brisbane Lions in Saturday night's NAB Cup grand final and Waite, or teammate Bret Thornton, are his likely opponents.

"We all remember what he did when he first came back against Essendon a couple of years back so that's been in our thoughts," Waite said.

The match Waite referred to was in round six, 2005.

A five-game suspension from the 2004 grand final delayed Brown's start to the season, but he quickly made up for lost time.

In a best-on-ground performance against Essendon, Brown beat three defenders in a brutal display of power.

Ted Richards, Dustin Fletcher and Ty Zantuck were all shoved aside by the 195cm, 102kg forward, who finished the night with eight goals, 14 marks and 20 possessions.

Lions coach Leigh Matthews said after the 48-point drubbing he could not recall a performance as dominant as Brown's.

Waite said Matthew Pavlich and Brown, who hasn't played since round 10 last year because of back and knee injuries, represented the two biggest tests for defenders in the AFL.

"He (Brown) is one of the best key forwards in the land and if you get his scalp you're doing pretty well," Waite said.

Asked if winning the premiership was a realistic aim this year, Waite said: "Anything's possible."

"That's what we're really striving for this year so this is just another step for us," he added."

Could be getting a little ahead of himself with his reference to the premiship but nothing wrong with optimism.

I didn't see the Essendon match but I do remember seeing the report and reading that Waite played loose in defence. As against Hawthorn he started on Franklin but buddy got a couple early and thus waite was moved to Boyle and kept him relativitly quiet.

if franklin plays "S**T" and waite wins with just having 3 goals kicked on him, brown will kick 5 if hes not on fire, if he has a good game, i assume a "modest" 15

Setanta might get the job. If so 2-3 goals tops. Be great learning experience for Setanta. He's bigger and faster than Brown. Should be interesting. :)

I reckon Setanta looks very promsing. I think he'll play on Richo in R1, and could do well.
I think he'll get the job on Richo. A perfect matchup at last. For years we never had anyone to combat Richo's height and pace. Having a 200cm fast KP defender has been a major plus for our defensive structure. I just hope Setanta's rapid progress continues in 2007. I think it will. :)

Correction. Waite played on Lucas AND Franklin both games, and was never moved onto Boyle.

Against Waite, I'd say that he would score two or three. Brown is returning so I'm not going to expect some explosion from him unless Waite plays like one of Essendon's defenders in Brown's comeback in 2005.
