Im taking that along with the 5 wins
great season

The big improvement I am hoping for next year is in reducing the AFL high number of 9 times we failed to score half of the opposition team's score.

Some of these instances occurred mainly as a result of opposition efficiency v our inefficiency both connecting inside 50 and scoring. Later in the season(last 9 rounds, whilst we didn't necessarily play better overall compared to the first 14 rounds, we definitely started closing the huge efficiency gap bit by bit.

The rough efficiency deficit ladder in 2025 looked like this:

1 Blues - deficit 15 goals but scored 28 more behinds than their opponents
2 Demons - deficit 29 goals but scored 38 more behinds
3 Swans - beaten by 12 goals but scored 15 more behinds
4 Eagles - deficit 148.84
5 Bombers - deficit 89.45
6 Port - deficit 66.35
7 Tigers - deficit 114.64

Those were the most inefficient teams. This normally runs with how well your key positions are working. We can see that Richmond and to an even greater extent West Coast conceded the biggest scoring shot differentials. In the Eagles case their scoring shot differential is around -10 per game. In our case it is around 8 per game.

So we need to improve our midfield connection and pressure to improve that scoring shot deficit. We want that noticeably lower next year, -4 to -5 per game would be a reasonable improvement.

Then we need to improve the way our backline and especially our forward line pressure and connection works to get off this inefficiency list as well. If we could get our overall average deficit per game down from 5 goals 3 behinds to closer to 3 goals 2.5 behinds, that would also be a reasonable improvement.

2025 Richmond averaged: 8.9 goals 9.8 behinds.

2025 Richmond conceded on average: 13.8 goals 12.6 behinds

So we have our baseline hopefully. Next year we want to average at least 10.10. And concede no more than 13.12 on average. Percentage 78%.

And **** off the 100%+ losses(scoring less than half the opponent team's score) almost altogether.

Did any team get done by 100 points this season? might have been one, but I don't recall too many. This was an easy 150-point drubbing, but it was so noticeable in the second half how much the break paddle was exhausted.

Cats beat North by 101.

There were 8 other margins of at least 90 points.

There were 9 other margins of at least 80 points. We copped two of those.

So we copped only 2 of the 18 biggest margin losses of the season, and ours were both outside the top 10 worst margins of the season. We did however cop 3 more 70+ margins and another 3 x 60+ margins.

I think we were competitive in 10 matches, and never any realistic threat in the other 13. This was not a lot different to 2010 in our last rebuild. Next year we want to be competitive in closer to 2/3rds of the matches we play. That would roughly equate to 2011 in our last rebuild. By 2012 we were competitive in 90% of our games.
