Think we need to take two project players with our rookie picks, Our main list is fairly even and there are a lot of guys banging on the door for spots that we can afford to take a couple of risks with rookies. Outside of Harper, C Delaney & Mabon, everyone on our main list is a decent chance to play games this year and from the rookie list L Delaney & White are in their 3rd year and will be pushing for games.

Definitely take a project KPF and maybe an athletic utility tall with the other.
Agree with most of that. Can afford to take a punt on a couple of guys.

No pure midfielders and especially no Sewell or anything recycled. From now on recycling will be done on the top shelf only.

Fairly sh*te year to be stocking up on talls IMO, especially late. Although am happy at this stage with Delaney and Mabo.

Couple of key forwards in 2011 is the go when a few of Lower, Edwards, Thomas, Ross, Warren, Urquhart, McMahon, Campbell, Garlett, Pratt, Rawlings are traded/retire. Almost certainly Rawlings last year with the young guys pushing up hard.

Is possible Campbell could form a fairly lethal combination with Harper up forward at stages. Adams will likely play ahead of both Thomas and Campbell in coming years.

1 Rookie KPF, a trunk of a kid would be good.

1 Rookie smallish defender or smallish forward that can push up the ground with strength in kicking accuracy and some speed.

Whatever they get, kicking accuracy and penetration mixed with speed is the necessity.

The flag is only a matter of:

Rawlings retiring
Thomas traded
Allison moved away from forward coach to development coach

Key forward 1st round pick in 2011 as well as a couple of kicking specialists. Flag.

Carlton will be taking 3 I believe.

We will be looking to take a certain mature age player who we were considering at pick 70. I'd be looking at both Sewell and Hibberd and then a project ruck if there is one we rate.

freo have 4 picks. Most likely redrafting Ruffles, Bucovaz and O'brien. I'll say we would look another mature age player or a project tall.

Carlton should have 3 live rookie selections with one place already gone to International Scholarship holder Peter Labi (or flaps as he is known). I'd expect Rhys O'Keefe to be selected with one of those

Acc to wiki: Greater Western Sydney will take part for the first time, having the first eight selections, with the Gold Coast Football Club having selection nine and then the first selection in each subsequent round.

Will the 2012 rookie draft go back to normal or still be compromised?

Don't know what Jimmy is thinking, but we need a ruck back-up so I'm hoping for Giles for our PSD pick. Tyson Slattery is a chance to be re-rookied, but other than that, I wouldn't mind if we took some obvious picks in Hibberd, Sewell or Allan from the SANFL, even to see how they go at AFL level.

Apart from picking up a key forward with first round pick in 2011, the Roos have a potent, well balanced, deep list.

Micro managing the list for the future would add:

1) Key Forward (Rookie 2010)
2) Guerra/Hunt type (Rookie 2010)

3) Key Forward (2011 1st rounder)
4) Quick/Polished Midfielder (2011 2nd rounder)
5) Utility Ruck/KF (2011 3rd rounder)

Would think about adding another crumbing type small forward, but would probably wait until Harvey hung up the boots/traded a couple. Plus, like what happened at Hawthorn, you dont want the clowns in high numbers.

2 picks for North.

I'd like one of the VFL listed mids for one pick, and ideally, I would like a project key forward with the other pick, but the rookie draft has been a desert for key forwards over the last few years when you take Podsiadly out of the equation.

Sewell would be nice, and I have a lot of time for Stephen Clifton.
Daniel Stewart, Ricky Henderson and Nick Salter are all handy.

From a Carlton perspective, the AFL site has us with 5 free slots on the rookie list, with Tuohy (Ireland) already on the list but no Bray(NSW Scholarship upgrade), Labi (international scholarship) or O'Keeffe (delisted but training with the club). As I understand it (and I am not at all sure I have this right, there is just so much conflicting information about this stuff) Labi can stay as an international scholarship player or whatever they call it for another year, be off the rookie list and Carlton still have first dibs on him for next year. If so, then it makes no sense to put him on as a rookie unless there is some thought he could be ready for AFL at some stage 2011. He is coming from a long way back despite his exciting talent, so for mine, leave him off the rookie list. Carlton have committed to Bray so that takes one of the five picks and it seems the Blues will pick up O'Keeffe if no-one else grabs him, which is unlikely. That would leave 3 "live" picks. Now in my mind, and I think it is the general consensus Carlton have the following needs - inside mid, outside mid, lead-up forward and maybe (some will dispute this) a long term ruck project. Bray would seem to provide the lead-up forward option, though his kicking worries me. So I would see the Blues' priorities being as follows:

1. Inside or in/out mid - Brad Harvey, Adam Marcon, Mitch Carter, Kieran Butcher, Mitch Gent, Jackson Sketcher, Stephen Clifton, Farran Priest, Glenn Grgic, or perhaps one of the Bullants such as Anton Woods (hasn't greatly impressed me) or thew more mature Jarrod McCorkell or Adam Iacobucci.

2. Outside mid - Kiefer Yu, Nathan Batley (perhaps more a defender and poor endurance but x-factor galore) Ryan Brabazon, Daniel Nicholson, Josh Duncan, Gavin Roberts, Anthony Kyanga, Alex Ellisiou, Matt Snook, David Mirra, Aaron Sweet, Rowan Garlett, Caleb Shadboult, Matthew Outridge, Aaron Elari, or more from left field Johnny Bennell (ex-Collingwood rookie brother of Harley and cousin of Jamie) Patrick Heenan or from the Bullants Tyson Thomas - or again an in/out type.

3. Project ruckman if any available - Andrew Phillips, Josh Marchbank, Leif Cope, Barndyn Grenfell, Matt Jones, Josh Jenkins. Alex Simpson, Mitchell Curnow, Russell Gabriel, or evan Callum Sinclair as a tall forward who can relief ruck - alternatively, and especially if Bray is seen more as a marking forward than a lead-up type we could look for a lead-up forward - Darcy Barden (probably gone earlier - if we really want him we would need to go early and even then may miss out), Jamie Solly, Darcy Armfield, Charlie Riewoldt, Myles Pitt, Nick Lawless, Corey Buchan, Lance Daly or from the Bullants Ash Arrowsmith (not for mine) but certainly NOT ASH HANSEN OR RYAN MURPHY!!!!, or a more versatile forward type - Jarrod Ninyette, Hayden Yarran, Rhyce Cooyou or from the Bullants a favourite of mine Ahmed Saad.

Certainly plenty of options there. And of course if yolu want a super-athletic project anyone know if Aisake O'hAilpin is still seeking anther shot? Now that would be left field!

Carlton have three live picks.
That's what I thought, but now I'm getting confused (again!).

The article on the club website re Bray mentions he is upgraded to "the New South Wales Scholarship Rookie List ...[and] is unavailable for senior selection in 2011 but will train full time with the club ..."

That seems to be some different category to normal rookie list positions, but does it reduce the number of normal rookie picks available? Some earlier posts in this thread seem to suggest not. Anyone know?

I am probably the person from earlier in the thread so perhaps you want some other confirmation, but NSW Scholarship selections do not count towards your maximum quota of rookie listed players, and taking one does not reduce your number of rookie picks available.

In that regard they're effectively the same as (non-Irish) international rookies.

Hey cmndstab

Apparently James Webster our NSW kid has been promised a spot on our senior rookie list, instead of the NSW/international rookie list.

Essendon will have:

PSD: x 1
Rookie x 3
NSW: + 1 (James Webster)

As for needs, midfielders x two, ruckmen X 1
