Smarter picks at the start would have prevented nearly all of those bar the Anthony one, so I'll know that for next year.
I have to say, while your initial squad had some average picks, you trades have been working well for you.

It is just important that you now show some discipline with your trading and attempt to upgrade players.

Round 2: Anthony to Rich
Round 3: Hill to Petrenko (I knew I wasn't going to be able to get to a computer on Thursday so I made this trade on the Wednesday, I thought Hill would get dropped and spend a couple of weeks in the WAFL and some stupid logic which I now can't understand how I came to led to me thinking the trade would make me double the money than it actually would even if Hill got dropped. Regret it now but it's not too bad a trade, it'll probably still at least make me 50k)
Round 5, will be made in about a minute: Ottens -> McIntosh.
And next round I'll get rid of Skippy for whichever of Franklin or Riewoldt I think will drop the least.

Stevevan, I kept the faith in Butler and now that he's been named for this week I think he'll repay me.

Just making my first 2 trades today, im starting to fall behind so i thought i would try and catch up by making some bold decisions with my trading. Im happy my first 2 trades are a downgrade and an upgrade. It also leaves me with 50k in coin so i think i will just about try and upgrade each week from now on. Their was 3 very good scoring midfield rookies on the weekend in (Barham, Collins and Hartlett) so i thought i would take advantage of this. It is likely that i would want two of these players and i know that i cant get both of them next week through downgrades as it will leave me even further behind. So i decided to get the player who i thought would be best 22 for the longest.

Happy with my trades but couldve easily have waited another week but i think to do well you need to positive towards your trading and have an attacking mindset.

Haselby (out) > Hartlett (in)
Skipworth (out) > Franklin (in) vs (WCE, ESS, Carl) next 3 weeks and should have field days each game and hopefully he can play well tomorrow against Mackenzie.

Haselby also has a 45 BE and against the swans may only get a 60 so i think he wont make a whole lot of extra cash and i work on a basis if i think a player is going to only make 10k or less in the next week than why not trade them for an extra 50 points.

Good luck with Butler gopower. Different situations probably so different decisions.

Ill most likely do this next week unless Haselby hits out a 90+ and hartlett gets a 40 then ill trade otten to a collins/86k player. Then Skip > Voldt

Well im looking to downgrade either Rich or Otten to Barham or Collins next week. This should also make me plenty of cash and leave me with plenty of options. I think i could get Corey and Collins/Barham in for Rich and Otten whilst this means having Beams and Hartlett playing on the field with Collins/Barham on the bench as emergency.

Barham vs Collins will be interesting thats why i wanted to wait another week to separate these two. Both sides have players wanting to return and both made promising debuts. Richmond need ti play youth and Collingwood need their best 22 in which i think Barham may not be apart of with all players available.

Although having a look at their current best 22, whos going to return ??

Bock was suspended for one week, does that mean you plan to trade anyone gone for one week?

The reason why you have two people sitting on the bench is to cover for injuries (and earn some cash), seems like you maybe scared to use these players.

Every team will run into injuries, it is how you deal with those injuries that are the key to DT.
well I used rookie listed players who I thought would be promoted mid season in 1 spot on the bench. I've only had Petrenko able to cover for injuries and suspensions in the backs with Ziebell and THompson elsewhere. Bock's suspension was indefinent and I didnt want petrenko on the field (too inconsistent)

So my 8 so far. I checked instead of going by memory

Rd 2. Out S.Stevens in R.Hargrave (due to injury)
Out Sloane in Petrenko (injury from Sloane in SANFL, Petrenko getting game time)

Rd 3. Out Mackay in Otten (consistency and make 100k for upgrades at a later date)
Out Bock in Harding. (Indefinent suspension to Bock)

Rd 4. Out Maric in MacIntosh (consistency reasons. And I had the $)
Out H.Shaw in P.Burgoyne (yes both were suspended, But I didnt realise Burgoyne was suspended :thumbsdown:.)

Rd 5. Out Skipworth in Krakuer. (Injury)
Out Roughead in higgins (Consistency)

and I still have $133,400 spare. Im saving these for a while. And exploding late in the year.

Have made one - which i now think was an error

however i will be making at least 5 trades in the next 3 weeks, maybe 6

Given some falling stars - i am going to do my upgrades early

Mapping out like

Goodes ->Hartlett
Skippy -> Riewoldt (+40k)

Otten-> Barham (maybe)
Dempsey/Hill -> Carrazzo/Hodge ($0k)

Cloke->Didak (-$70k)

I think I was trying too hard to be different with some of my initial picks, and it backfired. I did research them all, and they all seemed like decent gets at the time. Jay Nash was among the most consistent scorers when he played last year (little did I know he was and still is an in-and-out of the side type for Essendon). Marcus Drum looked like he'd improve, but he's gone backwards. I picked Cameron Cloke for his consistency (again, one of the most consistent scorers last year), but he just wasn't scoring enough for me. And I'm sure many other people got done by the Liam Anthony injury as well.

I'm really going to scale back my trading now. I pretty much had to do some of those trades though, as I would have been having a heap of guys doing nothing for me, and also lagging way behind in scoring.

Used 3 so far. Wanted to use only 2 in the first 8 weeks but with Robinson being dropped and having no cover on the bench I decided to make 1 trade tonight to being in some cover. Other 2 trades involved injured players who I didn't think would get back in the time given, so I traded in more reliable cover. With any luck I wont have to make another trade for another 2-3 weeks.

*Note: on the poll it I mistakenly voted for 4 trades. I can assure those in my league it is only 3.

I've used just the two. One succesful (Buckley to Hargrave after round 1). One unsuccesful (Anthony to Robinson after round 2).

Will not (ie didn't) trade this week.

Collingwood have Heath Shaw and Maxwell to come back from suspension next week. Looking at their emergencies it looks like they would like to play some other younger guys too in the next few weeks - Wellingham who was ok last year, Macaffer etc.

Richmond has Cousins, Brown, Cotchin, Raines supposedly back in the next 1-2 weeks.

Given the quality of Tiger in's I would think Barham had more chance of staying in for another couple of weeks but doubt either would string many games together barring a fair few more injuries.

It's pretty aggressive trading out Rich and Ottens that early - they might each go up anther 40-70K before their rises become consistently less than 5K. Do you think by trading this early you'll get other cows who you can trade out for cash say round 11-14?

I thought I would keep Rich and Ottens for a while yet - Rich may even end up being 7th mid if lots of injuries hit my team.

5 for me. No more now until rookies stop appreciating.

Had to concede on poor decisions pre-season:
  1. Ben Reid in preference to Skippy
  2. Paul Johnson over Kreuzer/HMac
McVeigh was a mid-ranger I was hoping to upgrade early but he's gone the other way so I cut my losses for a rookie who looks the goods.
I'm not sure that Raines will come straight in and Chaplin might be a keeper.
Daniher's injured and I didn't like the idea of playing both Walker and Ziebell.

R3
Reid -> Daniher (waste)
Raines -> Chaplin (might be a keeper)

R4
McVeigh -> Beams
Johnson -> Kreuzer

R5
Daniher -> Franklin

I know it's too many trades to have used, but I think I've brought in two keepers, and Johnson > Kreuzer is sideways but thought Johnson was likely to be dropped at the time, and was spending a lot of time on the bench.
