They get the word from HQ
exactly.. the whole system is rigged... but oh well, no mookay for a few weeks will allow a young player a chance.

the big blow up will come when a guy like Martin or bont etc is involved in an incident the same as this the week before a GF..

then watch the toads in AFL HQ back peddle at a rate of knots!..

No no no, blow up not necessary. Stars don't get suspended at finals time for any action considered a football incident. They use lesserlights to send that message and just hope the stars will change their habits accordingly.

As a Crows supporter, can we suspend him for the rest of the year? Playing a 30+ yo list clogger when we are trying to rebuild!! Any kid can get his 12 touches a game off back flank/wing!!!

2023 Steve Hocking will introduce tags players must wear around the waist. If a tag is pulled, that's counted as a tackle and is a free kick to the opposition.

That idiot is ruining this sport.
Hocking should be brought before the tribunal for bringing our great game into disrepute.

The guy is a clown who just keeps ruining our game.

Anyone with a brain knows this was an unfortunate unavoidable football accident. Change suspensions from where there is intent to where it is an accident, our great game is stuffed!

BTW, I don't want Mackay in our side when rebuilding, but this is about saving our great game.

I feel like some Saints fans want to see him rubbed out as punishment for hurting one of our own. It's ridiculous - it was clearly a contest between two players and one of them came off second best. It easily could have been the other way around.
You can't legislate against every single potential for injury or else you might as well shut down the sport. These things happen, it's not nice - but a part of what makes sport so exciting is there is an element of danger.

So by what was written by the AFL anyone doing a Brownie or Riewoldt style mark irrespective of whether they mark it or not can be suspended under their interpretation. AFL is beyond a joke.
Liam Ryan should have been suspended for his MOTY over Gawn a few years back :)

At the Tribunal, Tribunal Counsel (instructed by the AFL), will allege that player Mackay carelessly engaged in Rough Conduct that was “unreasonable in the circumstances” in contravention of AFL Tribunal Guideline 4.4(E) which proscribes “any conduct which is unreasonable in the circumstances”.

So the AFL are going to argue that his conduct is unreasonable in the circumstance of a contest?
It's now unreasonable to compete for a loose ball & accidentally cause an injury...

Changes the game as we know it.

Can't be suspended under this.

Didn't break any rule, and there is no possible way his 'conduct is unreasonable in he circumstances' - he did nothing wrong; I can't see how they can possibly argue that his conduct was unreasonable in any way.

"Unreasonable conduct" can be determined however they want it to be determined. It's deliberately written that way.

The only unreasonable conduct here is by Steve Shocking.

The fact that we have no idea what the outcome will be is damning, for what is meant to be a professional sporting league.

There is no proper process that makes sense, no system or logic. It’s a joke, spin the big wheel and see what it lands on - This would be just as reliable.
It all feels very contrived to me.

Imagine this going to an independent court.

Judge: what are the charges
Prosecution: player Mackay conducted himself unreasonably in the circumstances
Judge: oh, ok. And what were the circumstances?
Prosecution: player Mackay ran full speed with outstretched arms to win the loose football. He arrived at the contest at the same time as his opponent Hunter, they collided. Hunter sustained an injury to his jaw
Judge: and what would have been a reasonable action in the circumstances?
Prosecution: for player Mackay to run at full speed with outstretched arms to win the loose football

queue Benny hill music...

99% of the football public - play on.

Whateley - suspension.
Robbo - suspension.
Stevens - suspension.

They know where their bread is buttered.
If it was Dustin Martin instead of Mackay they would be saying no suspension, love the way he goes about it shame about Clarke but that's footy.

If the AFL suspend Mackay then come preliminary final weekend if something like this happens then they also have to suspend then even if it's a star player, you can't have one set of rules for some and another set of rules for others.

This is a line in sand moment, Football will change forever if they decide that they'll be consequences if a player in injured while "Contesting the ball" which is the whole fabric of the game

It looked in the contest to me, with intent to win the ball.
However, every now and then they pull out the "duty of care" argument once a player braces to bump - even if he was practically over the ball at the time of impact. And these things are sometimes decided by result rather than action. Should be zero, could easily be 3-4.
