The usual course of events is that movies are created and high drawing actors are paid to play the roles of people in those films

As a result of this, these actors become famous and recognisable around the globe

My question is, how much money would you (yes you, boring non famous you in your current situation) pay the director or studio company etc for a role in a movie

Lets assume its for a latest action block buster where the acting skills can be left at the front door and you'll play a supporting role to a big name hollywood star. You'll have plenty of lines and screen time, acting as a side kick saving the world or something a like. For the girls, you'll play the damzel in distress or even still a female badass sidekick, up to you

You'll get no royalties or anything from the film, and you'll need to do the touring and promo on tv and radio for the film for nothing

The benefits from doing the film are the obvious. You'll become a household name around the globe, you'll be getting invites to the best patries in town and marquees at all the best sporting events. The 'doors' that open up for celebrities will now be opened for you. As they say celebrities get all the money in the world but dont pay for a thing.

The drawbacks are obvious as well, you'll become a househald name around the globe and be asked to attend lots of parties and sporting events that you'll grow tired of and wont interest you. Everybody will want to be your friend

The pros and cons of fame are obvious, and no doubt this thread will attract every hipster who cant wait to say how terrible fame would be, but for those people I guess their number is $0

Then form there of course, if you are a success, the opportunity for more films and the paycheck that comes with it. You'll be opening the door to a potential mulit million dollar acting career

So whats your figure (assuming you'll want to bid)

(this idea comes from a multi millionare playboy who was friends with a director and paid him a certain amount for some airtime in one of his upcoming feature films. The millionare was an ex army dude and tried to be a seal, the movie was an army movie, he wanted to play an army guy. The guy didnt get the minutes he was promised in the final cut so is now trying to get the money back)

I would still want to be paid. Why would playing kiss ass with other psuedo celebs and having every tabloid want to air your dirty laundry be a good thing? And that's not even including, under your scenario, where you started significantly poorer than when you started.

Oh wait you said that in your OP, guess im a hipster.

If you are paying or giving away your services for free just to get your name out there, you are destroying the livelihood of others and getting absolutely nothing back for it. In other words, you're a chump. Unless its a student film or something for a friend I'd want to be paid.

The things you mentioned arent good things, they are the cons section of fame

Do you work? Why would want to get up every day and do something for somebody else? Because you get paid

Who would want the cons that come with fame? The people that want the pros that come with fame...

If fame isnt something you're interested in, then obviously you wouldnt pay to get your foot in the door

Its an investment. Short term loss for potential long term game. If the movie is a success, how much could you ask for another gig? You could throw your name out there for $1million and let the production companies bid

I think it is very unlikely that subsequent films would be looking to utilise my (or nearly anyone else in the same situation) services. I'm not very attractive and I don't expect I'm a particularly skilled actor. It would likely be public knowledge that I'd paid my way in and few casting managers would want me to act in their film as people would be less likely to take the movie seriously/see it as B-grade or worse.

Sure, I might me a curiosity for a little while, particularly in Australia as an Australian (we latch onto anything we can call our own) but it would only be 5 minutes of fame, ala someone like Rob Mills.

I'd probably still pay for that privilege but nothing significant (which is what would be required to get the opportunity).

Having said that, I have been an extra in a movie and few TV shows and, whilst not the same thing, is not all that fun and makes absolutley no difference to your life.

Don't want to be famous. Only in case I get rich from it (and I prefer being rich without being famous). So I need a very decent coin to get involved in a movie...

Alex Williamson and Greg Fleet crowdsourced funds for their upcoming zombie film. For a credited role in the film, complete with IMDB acreditation was $1000. Not bad value to see yourself on IMDB.

I'm not good looking and I can't act. The better question is how much would you have to pay me in order to embarrass myself in front of tens of millions of people around the world.

I'd simply hate to be famous. Wouldn't even go on Wheel of Fortune.

Imagine you were walking along one day minding your biznitz and a baby fell out of the 6th floor of a hotel and you ran out onto the road in front of a truck and caught that baby whilst getting a few broken bones from the truck. The baby was fine and his name was Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge.

There'd sort of be a media frenzy and every media outlet from Channel 9 to BBC1 to Oprah would want you on their show. Lots of people would lap up their 15 minutes of fame. But for people like me it would be "i don't want to be on any TV show".

I'd image they would want to pay a nominal fee but I'm pretty sure it would be enough for me. I'd be demanding a bit more. And no doubt that would be reported in press "greedy hero quickstraw wants his 15 minutes of fame and thinks he should be paid $50k to appear on Oprah, $5k to appear on AU morning TV etc. What a diva".

Who would offer you another role afterwards though, when they can just find another person who is willing to pay them (or at the very least work for nothing) to be in the movie?

Only reason I can think of is that you are actually a good actor, but for some reason are struggling to bring yourself to the attention of directors, even then it would make more sense to pay to secure an audition, then you can at least say you earned your place in the film.

So if there's no money in it (I'm assuming there won't be any sponsorship deals or endorsement packages that follow either, like free cars or being paid to wear a certain watch) you would have to really really want to be famous to do it.

Now I think of it though, don't all actors pay for their roles in at least a roundabout way by hiring an agent who finds them work?

No problemo! If they ever remade Robot Monster you could be 'Lead Robot Monster' and still be famous while being also unknown.
