Well with the biggest horse race of the year approaching and a lot of people placing bets made me wonder, just how much the average Australian bets each year. This includes things like Lotto and scratchies and all the like.

Too much for a 16 year old.

I once lost 40 bucks on the a single footy match (Richmond/Hawthorn 2000), and I bet on the Cox Plate, Melbourne Cup, and with mates.

I'm still under 18, so haven't had the chance to bet legally yet. But all that will change in 2 weeks time:D

Honestly, I'm addicted to gambling. I bet with people every chance i get, Melbourne Cup, Grand Prix, Grand Final, etc. But thats mostly with mates and they are usually $2 bets.

Won $20 from this chick at school about 2weeks ago, but considering she's a chick i didn't make her pay up

I have a bet every Saturday on the main Melbourne metro meeting. Success comes sparingly, but I don't outlay huge amounts of money so it doesn't really matter that I rarely have a huge win.

More than I should. But I only generally bet on metro meetings. There is not enough quality in country meetings apart from the Cups. Never bet on footy. Not enough value.

I only bet on the horses the first week of November, or when Walshy gives me a tip :D

I buy lotto about once a month & during footy season usually have a few bets with friends.

Probably ends up being once every couple of months. Not much of a gambler myself, but if a Crown, i'll find myself outlaying a few dollars on the roulette table! :)

Put it this way,The Melbourne Cup is just another day on the punt.I have probably had a bet on every track in Australia (horses,dogs,trots)....have had some nice wins, but would be well down over the years.
Where I have done well is on the football, taken many a dollar off magpie mates, many a dollar, did well this year on the Ess/Briz g.f quinella, nice collect, did very well the day richmond beat carlton on s hitvagni`s 300th,nice collect.Done well off the Norm smith medal as well...got shannon grant, andrew mcleod x2 and dean kemp, probably way up on football bets, but way down when it comes to horses, always pay the bills though and have enough to shout the wife out for dinner.pokies can go and get stuffed, shocking things, refuse to go near them.

Way too much, my friends are always saying I'll end up at a gamblers annonymous meeting.

I won an award for going down to the TAB during free periods at school. Damm those ponies!

Footy tipping comp with mates, once a year. $20 to enter.

No other betting, because I'm sick of people not paying up when they lose.

Nothing worse when ppl don't pay up their bets. I had a bet with my dad that billie jean king was female. He is convinced she used to be a guy. I have no idea how he came up with that, but he wont pay up.

Horses, just on Cup Day

Occasionally pokies or roulette, never go off my own bat but sometimes end up there with mates.

Don't enter lotto, occasionally by a scratchie if I get $1 or $2 change at the newsagent

Can't stand people who don't pay up their bets! I bet a mate $30 that either Ken Judge would go at the end of the season or Wirrpunda would go. This was in March this year. Well Ken Judge got booted so did I not win the bet?

Yea, I probably punt too much.

I generally bet the horses/trots, boxing, footy and blackjack - but when Im bored I find heaps of stuff to keep me interested.

Ive had stabs in the dark on Ice Hockey, Basketball and NFL games - I keep in contact with an illegal bookie from California who generally helps me out depending on the lines here in Australia, but thats all I basically go by most times. We dont get enough coverage to watch the form etc. If im somewhere that has keno look out.

Roulette is a (unt of a game - but it is easy, and you can have a laugh playing it. The return for the punter is shocking, but for some reason I still play. In the states I played a double zero wheel! - 5.4% house edge - that is criminal!

Normally will find it hard to walk past the pookies/slots (overseas) without dropping some hard earned.

Always in the process of refining my card-counting skills for blackjack - I can do it, just gotta get better at keeping a conversation going, acting normal blah blah. That is a good game - and Im definitely up over the years. (Can any sydneysiders confirm the rumour Star City is implementing continous shuffling machines on their bj tables? B@stards!)

It all depends on what your calling a 'punt'.

Horses, Dogs etc hardly ever. Casino? Every couple of months i guess for a night out more than anything.

Buying/selling stuff for a (hopefully) profit? All the time.
