Was watching the Cats v Blues Thursday night and it got me wondering how rare it is to see three (or more) sets of brothers playing in the same match in VFL/AFL history.

Tom/Sam De Koning - Ed/Charlie Curnow - Cameron/Zach Guthrie

Had Jack Henry not gotten injured it would have been 4 sets of brothers. Maybe we see that happen when Geelong play Carlton next year as the trash AFL fixture doesn't see Geelong play Carlton again this season.

How do the four Danihers count? When the four of them played together was that six sets?

Neale and Terry, Neale and Chris, Neale and Anthony

It's a good stat and maybe one for Swamp.

Just spitballing:

Think Port in the early 2000s would be a pretty good bet- had 2X Cornes and 2X Burgoyne + a Wakelin, Bond, James, and Carr unsure of how precisely these guys overlapped with eachother and their brothers at other clubs.

In more recent times Collingwood have had 2X Brown and 2X Daicos + a Henry and a Kelly, and Geelong have had 2X Guthrie and 2X Selwood + a Kolodjashnij (and going forward obviously have 2X Guthrie and 2X Henry)

Brisbane have had 2X Berry, Coleman, and Lyons on the list relatively recently (though the younger parts of those pairs haven't/didn't played much/at all) + an Ah Chee.

Collingwood in the early 2000s might also be a good shout - 2X Shaw, 3X Cloke + a Wakelin, a Lonie, a Rocca.

Think circa 2006ish you could theoretically have got a Port vs Collingwood game with 6 sets of brothers (Shaw, Cloke, Wakelin, Lonie, Cornes, Burgoyne)?

Had a quick look and in 2006 they played twice with 4 brothers in one game and 3 in the other.

In 2005 they also played a game with 4 brothers.

You're saying you won't make finals??
