Not really a great surprise. Ablett has always polled worse than he should while Bartel has always polled really well. There were a few instances where Gablett polled fewer than Bartel and shouldn't. Not to take anything away from Jimmy though, deserved winner.

ablett got stiffed. What ablett snr said in the paper today was spot on, umps need to realise what players are being tagged every single week, and try and appreciate that every posession they gather is made from breaking loose off their tagger. Ablett is more of a targeted player than jimmy, letting him run off the ball more...

who cares

Charlies back in geelong, and so is the flag

I thought he was unlucky not to get a vote in the last couple of games. I know against Port we lost, but Gablett was instrumental in our comeback, and against brisbane he was probably BOG. At the same time, its good Jimmeh won it, but would have bene good to see Gablett come second. Instead, he had Mitchell and Black ahead of him? What the heck? :p

i opened this and thought it would be a thread about miss phillips.......
bitterly dissapointed

His umpire whinging last year caught up with him and he'll probably need to gain some more respect from the umpires..he is a gun player and should've polled better than he did

Oh I know, but Kerr and Harvey are at least awesome player sand probably on par with Gablett (or a bit ahead.) My argument is against Mitchell and Black. The latter is an awesome player who has had a rather quiet season, and Mitchell is well... not as good as Hodge. but ah well!

Yeh, he was hard done by, but I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it. We all know he's the better player and I'm sure he'll get one eventually! At least one of the Geelong boys won it!!!

i'm so suprised at how so many people bag the umps (including me!), and yet are suprised when we see dodgy brownlow decisions.

The maggot's (biased) opinions aren't worth a damn, so don't be suprised when things such as this happen.

I think it is because he gets a lot of ball running around the back of players when they take a mark. This is very good for our team as he is a brilliant user of the ball and it gets him into the game early. If I was an umpire I would be more likely to give them to Bartel as he is just a hard no-nonsense footballer.
