Analysis How strong would sides be if they retained all draftees?

The trading of players for draft picks, complicates this.

I'm trying to make it a bit simpler. Basically it's the first list you were on.

Would probably make the task impossible... but do you take into consideration something like...

You have Milera on the bench for the crows... but if the Crows hadn't lost Dangerfield, they would not have got the pick they used to get Milera, so he shouldn't be in their side?

Think GWS would basically destroy.....they'd gain Lobb, Shiel, Wilson, Smith, Marchbank, Hoskin-Elliott, Plowman, Adams, Treloar, Bruce, McCarthy and Steele and would only lose Davis, Shaw, Mumford, Ward, de Boer and Deledio (some big losses there, but most are coverable by the guys they've lost IRL)

Given what they started with you’d hope so, although they have used a lot of their picks well.

True, though the Suns wouldn't be anywhere near as strong, I don't think (though obviously a lot better than they are now!)

The problem with these is Adelaide for example picked up players for trading out those who left.

Its virtually impossible to disregard all moves.

If you are gonna bring back Danger, Davis etc etc you need to kick out Crouch brothers just for starters..

This times 10.

Countless Adelaide players arent there if they kept players before. Then factor in if they stayed where they finish the following season etc etc.

Its impossible.

Hawthorn would be in a bit of trouble obviously.
Out - S. Burgoyne, C. Wingard, J. Impey, R. Henderson, T. O'Brien, T. Mitchell, J. O'Meara, J. Frawley, T. Scully, J. Scrimshaw, J. Gunston, B. McEvoy, J. Ceglar
In - M. Suckling, T. Duryea, Brad Hill, Josh Kennedy, S. Savage, J. Anderson, L. Hodge, J. Lewis, R. Burton

Would leave us with a 22 of -
FB - B. Hardwick, B. Stratton, T. Duryea
HB - R. Burton, J. Sicily, S. Savage
C - B. Hill, L. Shiels, I. Smith
HF - J. Anderson, J. Roughead, R. Schoenmakers
FF - L. Bruest, M. Lewis, P. Puopolo
Foll - M. Pittonet, J. Kennedy, J. Worpel
Int - G. Birchall, J. Lewis, M. Suckling, L. Hodge

Might have been a good side two-four years ago

More to look at how the club identifies and retains talent.

But you included players they got from others going.

I like the concept. Its just impossible.

O'Brien was drafted by the Hawks

St. Kilda list:
In: T.Lynch (Adel), M.Hutchings & J.Cripps (WCE), H. Goddard (Carl), B.McEvoy & D.Minchington (Haw) - Weller and Hickey we didn't draft
Out: Carlisle (Ess), Hanners & Membery (Syd), Savage (Haw), Steele & Bruce (GWS), Roberton (Freo), Brown & Marsh (Coll), Longer (Bris), Rowe (Carl), Austin (PA), Kent (Mel)

Best 22:
Out 9 players: (Carlisle, Hanners, Membery, Savage, Steele, Bruce, Roberton, Brown, Kent)
In 4 players: (Lynch, McEvoy, Cripps, Hutchings)

Lynch is the only one that really hurts. On the flip side, very happy with the ins (Longer & Rowe aside who are just break in case of emergency). Especially since none of those players cost very much.

A few other things to consider like draft picks, but on the surface we appear much much stronger for our recent trading

Verdict
The Crows have a well-documented issue with player retention which is reflected in a sizeable list of quality draftees that have left the club. Cameron, Dangerfield, Davis and Gunston are all bona fide stars of the league whilst Lever is class and Curnow and Lyons provide solid options. They've certainly brought in some great opposition draftees - Eddie Betts, Sam Jacobs, Paul Seedsman and Tom Lynch especially - but the list is outweighed and if you were to assemble a best 22 of players first drafted by the Crows, it would be a premiership contender without a doubt.

Crows Draftee Best 22
B Tom Doedee -- Daniel Talia -- Jake Lever
HB Rory Laird -- Phil Davis -- Brodie Smith
C Jarryd Lyons -- Brad Crouch -- Hugh Greenwood
HF Patrick Dangerfield -- Mitch McGovern -- Riley Knight
F Charlie Cameron -- Taylor Walker -- Jack Gunston
Foll Reilly O'Brien -- Matt Crouch -- Rory Sloane
Int Wayne Milera, Rory Atkins, Ed Curnow, Shaun McKernan

lol @ having shaun mckernan in a best 22.

I suspect the Collingwood team will be a fair bit worse. Pies have traded pretty well the last few years.

Out - Adams, Aish, Crisp, Dunn, Greenwood, Hoskin-Elliott, Howe, Mayne, Murray, Roughead, Treloar, Varcoe, Wells

Some pretty talented players in that lot and a reasonable chunk of the best 22. Can’t remember the players we’ve lost.
